Wasn't looking too good, but I was feeling real well.

1. Now everyone can hear where the Black Crowes got 90% of their
inspiration from.

2. THAT would one for the outtakes version of Exile next spring.

This sounds like a very early take, but it's a neat glimpse into the song's development. At this point, it still may have been called "Get A Line On You".

I never really noticed how prominent the bass is in this song until just now, listening to this version. Funny how you can listen to something dozens of times without noticing something so obvious!

It's from a Leon Russell session at olympic studios 1969, where Jagger played this with his band.

Yeah, WMiller. Even the final version has a very strong "Motown" feel to it, as if Bill (or whoever is playing bass) is trying to channel a bit of James Jamerson's sound.

I went back to the final version after listening to this and sure enough, there it was! Like I said, I was surprised I hadn't noticed it before.

Van Morrison should cover this raw version!

This was released as a bonus track on a Leon Russel album wasn't it? So technically spoken it's not an outtake.

Correct. But its only on the DCC Gold Edition of the Leon Russell CD, NOT on the normal CD version. Heavily bootlegged ever since, though.

Yeah, prominent Bass in both versions, but completely different style and purpose. Didn't Taylor do the Bass on official version? Makes sense; because it is precise, in the high register, and melodic (in the 'Exile' version). This version right here is a whole other ball game; it's like a rumbler, pumping 16th notes. Is this even the Stones? regardless - it is great.
I always kind of enjoy the whole overlapping, incestuous scene from late 60's to early 70's, where all the top rock'n rollers on the planet, were all playing on each other's recordings a lot.

It's a great song and this is an interesting early take, thanks for posting.
I have just downloaded it, but I sure would like to know if this can also be found on a bootleg; I cannot find in in my collection!
