Ronnie Smoking Onstage ?
Posted by: Milo Yammbag ()

Can any of you who have recently seen the band tell me if Ronnie is smoking onstage ?

I know this thread seems crazy, but if he has that cigarette is in his hand and he is and chain smoking he is boozed up or drugged up or both.

I saw them twice in MSG & Giants Stadium and NOT ONCE did Ronnie have a smoke in his hand, the first time I ever saw them play without Ronnie chain smoking or smoking at all.

The no smoking is definitely part of the rehab, in my opinion.

So, can any of you update me or if you have experience in the field of rehab, and that is not meant as a joke, could you weigh in.

I look forward to your thoughts.

There is only one reason why Ronnie doesn't smoke onstage and it's nothing to do with him combating the booze.

According to his interview with Q magazine a month or so ago, he smokes 'till 4pm and then slaps a nicotene patch on.

So in other words, he doesn't smoke after 4pm. I guess he sparks up again the next morning.

I won't see them until Houston, but Ronnie and Keith were lighting up every time I saw them last go round. I especially like Keith's comment while firing up just before his tunes during the first Wembly: "I can't read that (no smoking) sign over there!"

its a seperate thing entirely, Milo. He was told a couple of years ago that there was a serious risk of emphysema if he didnt cut them out and that it could kill him in a year if he didnt change his lifestyle. Hes found that vice a lot harder to kick than alcohol, from what I've read.

He didnt touch one when I saw his gig in London in March.

How long has Keith smoked? 45+ years?

he defies all medical logic...

He probably started when he was at school, so the 1950's.

I saw them in Detroit I did not see Ronnie smoke at all. Also he could not smoke all day before a show then put on a nicotine patch in the same day he would have a heart attack. So hopefully he has quit all together.

Really? he definantly stated in the Q interview that he smokes 'till 4pm and then slaps a patch on.

I noticed he wasn't smoking as well. I read an interview with Jo a week or two later in which she said that he had "something wrong with his lungs".

>> Also he could not smoke all day before a show then put on a nicotine patch in the same day <<

of course he can, and if that's what he says he does then why not believe the man.
using a patch and smoking at more or less the same time isn't hugely recommendable, but it isn't automatically fatal.

I don't recall seeing Ronnie smoking in Seattle. On the other hand, Keith lit up throughout the show! He even flicked his lit cigarette onto the stage before playing The Worst.

I know a few addicts. There's nothing in the rehab program that says you can't smoke cigarettes. In fact, although not exactly encouraged, cigarettes are more than tolerated because they actually help to keep an addict from doing more mind-altering things.

For a lot of addicts, if you took away their butts, they wouldn't stand a chance at getting sober. Their goal is to kick the drug/alcohol habit. Kicking the cigarette habit is a different issue.

Ronnie does not smoke at all now.
Keith is not smoking much at all,
but still one or two per show,
more than Licks when he never smoked,
except the one for the crowd during his set.

I just got back form the Anaheim show and Ronnie did not smoke at all. He was feeling cold tonight though. He indicated tot he crowd on a couple occasions that his hands were feeling very cold.

This was my first show of the tour and I thought he sounded fantastic. I don't understand why he has been criticized this tour if his playing was like it was tonight.

Then why did he clearlt state in the Q interview that he smokes 'till 4pm and then puts on the patch?

Keith DOES'NT smoke much on stage, if at all. You're right there.

Keith's never smoked much on stage. Bill Wyman always did.

Don't trust everything you read. And dont't trust everything you see. May be Ronnie said that in an interview 10 years ago or 1 year ago or may be he did not say it at all. Or may be he said it yesterday to impress the fans.

Ronnie is said to be diagnosed with lung emphysem. Which means his lungs can't take smoking anymore. I go to many shows and see the band off and on stage. I saw Ronnie smoke one year ago and also I hear he smoked one cigarette this summer. But I have not seen him smoking on stage on this tour. If you are a heavy smoker then I think you would smoke on stage or before or after the show. Sure he works harde on hs habit. It is not fun seing your lungs go away. And may be he is breaking and does a cigarette every now and then. But he is not a heavy smoker anymore. Not in this point of time.

I agree with most of what your saying, Bjornulf. My argument is merely based on a matter of principal. Ronnie’s interview with Q Magazine was conducted maybe a month or so before a Bigger Bang was released. It's TOO bold a quote to be misinterpreted or taken out of context. He is clearly implying that he's tackling the smoking issue, but still needs that nicotine fix to get him through the day.

I must admit, I don't see why Ronnie would say he's still puffing to impress the fans. It certainly doesn't impress me and I smoke! If his health’s in serious danger, then it's a black and white issue. He shouldn't smoke. I don't think anyone should actually.

KR seemed a little bit too lucid to me hammered on Methadone during the tour. With all the legal super drugs they have now why would he turn back to something that will again rot his insides, whatever is left.
