Why not open with One Hit (To The Body)?

I think that they should open with this song because it's a good tune and it has a very nice gradual build from the acoustic guitar in the beginning to the first verse. Plus, we'd get a brand new opener instead of the same old same old with SMU OR Brown Sugar. Bottom line, it would be a really great song to open with imo.smiling smiley

One Hit to the Body is a great song. I don't think it would make a good opener, just because so many people are unfamiliar with it, but I'd like to see it somewhere on the set list for sure. A very under rated song, and only played on the Steel Wheels/Urban Jungle tour. I bet a new version would sound better, considering that the guitars are up on this tour and are generally more raw and dirty than the somewhat clean sound of 89/90.

Yourself, myself and a handful of other selves would love this to happen. But the moronic majority in a stadium or arena would just stand in dumb, confounded silence thinking, "What the hell is this song.....we want SMU, BS, JJF, SFM......"

>Why not open with One Hit (To The Body)?

because when they performed it in 1989 they dropped it from the set a couple of months later because they couldnt play it properly (in their eyes anyway)

>And perhaps they dont want to open with a song that half the people in the place wouldnt know

correct in every way, except for the fact that its probably closer to 95% than half

Hey, lots of people thought we'd never get Sway!

Agree totally you can not open a show with a song that most people don't know.

Hey,

I'm all for any songs that will make the phonies with $ not buy tickets the next time...play a whole show without warehores...get rid of all those peole who turn to each other and say "what is this?...hey, let's go get a beer"

It will never happen because Jagger caters the set list to the wallet instead of to the fans...

One Hit...first song...I'm all for it...(oh shit...I must be dreamin!)

What a shame...

Great album song. I have multiple boots where they play it live. It's real bad...

I think people seem too be way to conservative when it comes to the opening song. I don't really get it why it have to be a well known number that 95% of the concert audience will immediately recognize. For myself I couldn't care less about the opening song. I'm always excited when I see a band that I like, no matter what song they open with. What's important is that the overall setlist will contain a lot of well-known numbers and also several less known tunes.
Neil Young opened with a new song during his solo tour in 2003 and then he went on to play new material for 90 minutes and after that he played hits for 30 minutes. What I'm saying is you don't have to kick off the gig with a warhorse. I'd personally love to hear One Hit as opener or why not songs from A Bigger Bang like She Saw Me Coming, Driving Too Fast or Look What The Cat Dragged In as show starters. They gotta try out a different formula for once in a while. The audience would still be buying beer and wieners and have a jolly good time.

I do care, because the opening song is the most energetic song of the night. It's a real adrenaline rush with the opening song, and it is too for the band, as Mick explained. Mick says it's the best part of the gig, and I understand.

I do not think that Not Fade Away is known by more that 25% of the audience.
The used it as an opener in 94/95 and it was Great.

What if they opened with Back to Zero? Now that would be a stunner. What could possibly come after that? ;-)

Great idea, Richard. First Back To Zero and after that the whole Satanic album. Would be cool to register the reactions among the crowd.

I thought it was pretty good. Some rough edges, but at least they tried it. I'm hoping they'll play it a few more times and do a better job. It would be kind of a shame if their first live attempt at it becomes the only live version to exist. I'd rather hear them play an obscure song and struggle with it a little than hear them play Tumbling Dice for the millionth time.
