Bigger Bang to be copy protected?

Does anyone know if the CD will be copy protected? I have uploaded the Stones back catalogue onto my ipod apart from Live Licks which will not upload as it is copy protected. Whilst I understand the reasons behind these measures the die-hard fans suffer as they inevitably end up buying the same album twice. EMI seem to release all their CD's this way. Are the Stones still on Virgin, a subsidiary of EMI?

from what I believe, it will be copy protected

LL wouldnt play on my walkman/MP3...nor could I convert it via SonicStage either

however I burned a CDR copy on my PC and was able to play that on the walkman AND copy it to mp3 via sonic stage

The new album will indeed be on Virgin/EMI. Its the band's final album for the label

The 2 reissues from April (Made i.t. Shade, Sucking i.t. 70s) both copy protected. Seems like the majority of new releases coming my way are

There is enough software around to crack the copy protection. Take CloneCD for example, and you can copy any CD you like.

Another thread mentioned the possibility that the American edition is not copy protected?

I realise I can work around the protection, but I mostly collect Stones CDs and this will be the first "CD" I own that is protected. I say "CD", because according to Philips (who invented the darn thing), the copy protections do not adhere to the CD standard (red book)... sad smiley

Thus I've put in an order at cduniverse.com or some such place, and since shipping costs almost as much as the CD itself, I figured I better ask before it actually ships...

On my copy there is a warning that it is copy protected.
Nethertheless I was able to burn a copies with Nero, with no need to use further software, and the cd plays on all of my cd players.
This copy protection thing is so stupid anyway!

I have never had problems burning "copy-protected" CDs...

Strange about Live Licks. It works fine in my Sony mp3-player via SonicStage even if the album is marked copy controlled.
I suppose you have an equal player, Gazza, and I should be very upset if I can't use it for my own CDs I buy.

This is a good page on copy protection issues [www.ukcdr.org]

The German version of Alfie, also on Virgin Records was copy-protected. The American version was not AND had a bonus track. It's easy to figure out which one I bought.

The German version (a/k/a Western European version) of A Bigger Bang is copy-protected too.

The following article is interesting for archivists: [www.bricklin.com]

If you use a free standing HHB burner, that plugs into
your stereo, the copyguards don't work!

PS You can then do what you please with the copy on your
computer, reproduce it again, or convert into another
type of file etc etc etc.
