New Orleans

Just saw the news footage with all of the destruction done by the hurricane down there . Horrible and ubelievable are the only words to describe it. So while everyone is excited about The Stones and the tour and the new CD. Maybe people can take just a second and say a little prayer for all of those people who are suffering down there tonight. And add a litte more for the people all over the world who have suffered a similar fate at the hands of mother nature. It would be nice to see the Stones donate there charity money from there ticket sales to some of these areas.

I don't know about the Stones, but my check (donation) hit the mail today. I think it'd be reasonable to expect them to perform in the name of charity. I just don't think its going to be anywhere near the Delta Lady anytime soon.

My heart definitely goes out to those folks.

My wife is from New Orleans. She moved here to the Boston area in October of 04. Most of her friends still live there. They are being told they can't go home for at least 1 more week and then only to gather belongings and then they must leave for an undetermined amount of time.

Some of her friends have completely lost their homes. My wife feels she is suffering from survivors guilt. The house she was living in before she moved here was swept away from the storm. Gone...completly gone.

Terrible tragedy. And it's going to get worse becuase the levies that hold the water back are breaking so the Mississippi River is still rising.

Terrible situation. The Stones have played at the Superdome on several occasions. They would be a natural to do a benefit for the city.

I don't think it's the right time to talk about a tribute yet...

It's really bad. have talked to people coming out of that hellacious situation. The stories are incredible. NO virtually is no more. NO depeneded so much on tourism for it's income. Even once the city is rebuilt it will be another "newer" city and really not have the history that was a huge part of it's charm any more.
What a mess.
I can not help but wonder. The weather has just gone crazy the last years. The tsunami, volcanoes errupting, rain deluges, heatwaves and coldspells, now this...
What is going on?

A general idea for the Stones...a benefit show at current ticket prices with all net proceeds going to relief. Broadcast the show in telethon fashion...after the first hour of the performance, for every additional $1,000,000 raised from the phone lines they do another song.

(and as someone of Polish decent, I cannot tell you how embarrassed I am to read the comment by tomekpoland23.)

Hey Tomek. When I started this post is wasn't meant to be a politial statement .
It was meant in the spirit of best wishs to people all of the world who have suffered from some very unpleasant disasters that mother nature has brought on them. From New Orleans to the people who where in the middle of that horrible tidal wave and even to all those people in Africa who have to struggle everday with Aids and starvation. Your you should be ashamed about your statement about in comparing this to Iraq. Unfortunatly those people are choosing to kill themselves and other innocent humans because they can't come together as a people. All I asked for yesterday was for a ittle prayer for all those suffering .

Blame the Sunnis, Syrians, and Iranian terrorists who are doing the killing in Iraq. You also seem to forget how many people were dying each day under Sadam while he paid off the UN, France, Germany and Russia to look the other way.

BTW, where are the European countries who complained the US wasn't quick enough with aid to the tsunami victims? Poor people in SE Asia more worthy of relief than poor people in the delta?

While I am at it, where are Bono, U2, Macca and the Stones who are getting richer this year off the Americans? Taking care of corrupt African dictators more worthy than helping the poor and needy in the country they are getting rich in?

By god Steven I think you got it right. I didn't really want to go there when I was asking for some prayers . It wasn't meant to be political. But sisnce you brouth it up You can take that BONO guy. That creep only comes out of his hole when there is a camera around. I haven't seen him pull out his checkbook and help anyone . That goes for a lot of these so called Rock stars. So I guess it is pretty easy when you are a multi millionare many times over to stand up on a stage and say how bad things are and that everyone should help. Then get into your limo and drive off to your mansion or five star hotel. Would it be nice if any of these acts ACTUALLY did a show and donate everyhing cent to a relief organization ? Hell yes. But the only time I know of a group doing anything was when the Stones did a benefit for an earthquake in South America. But then again I am sure they did it for Bianca. Or she would have put his dick on his nose . Hey maybe that's where Keith got that from . And yes everyone can say Live Aid but how much of that money REALLY went to help the people that it was intended for ?

Hey TomekPoland...
Iraq is spelled I.R.A.Q, not Irak. So much for your geography class.

Have you ever posted anything about the Stones? I don't recall ever seeing your name before.

But anyway. Say whatever you want about the US. It's not like you are going to make a diffence. It just seems you want to cause trouble.

Your post is like those morons who say that AIDS is God's revenge against gays.

Stick to the Stones, Dumbass. ( that is if you know how to spell Stones)

Your underperforming socialistic economy leaves you stuck with a very low standard of living, intense hatred, and jealousy of those countries that out perform yours. You feel joy in the misery of the countries that now get to suffer as you do. You feel entitled to pass moral judgments as if you are somehow wiser, have greater morality, and are doing more for those in need of help. I bet Mick would call you a hypocrite too.

Just ignore this jerkoff, look at his posts from the past nothing but crap. Makes those polish jokes look true, especially by the way he spells..

Anyway, my thoughts and prayers go to those hit by this nasty storm.

Not to be negative....

I really feel deeply with the people in New Orleans, people that have lost all their homes / personal belongings, people that have died, especially the already poor ones, that didn't have the means to flee from the flood / hurricane....

Moneywise, US can handle the terrible situation itself... The nation is fortunately wealthy enough to handle it's own problem.... It is now time, that the richer ones (billionaires) show solidarity with the poor ones and stand together and help...

Remember, there are lots of other disasters around the world, Bangladesh has the same problem several times a year, Africa has draught problem all year long....

Those countries need the (money) solidarity from the whole world....

If I remember correctly, the Steel Wheels show Nov. 1989 in Clemson, SC was a benefit for Hurricane Hugo victims.
That's where the opening track of Flashpoint came from.

Mabye you should go to a political board Tomek, because we don't give shit about what you have to say about this disaster. A natural disaster isn't something very similar to a war is it?

Re: New Orleans

This hurricane was a natural event which no one had any control over
You mean G.Bush???
