Start Me Up

This is all very subjective, of course, but the point is that if there would not have been "Start Me Up" I think quite many of us here would not be here now... it is the anthem of TATTOO YOU and 1981/82 tour generation of fans (the last time they gathered a really big following of 'fresh' fans), and, personally, that was the song that caught my attention in 1981, and thereby helped me discover music of the band... It might have also been their last BIG one to really to do that kind of effect for a 'new' genaratation... Their last true hit that is. (Funny though; there might quite a league of fans nowadays who has not have any experiences what is like to have a real "hit" by The Stones...)

Released songs that should have been left in the vaults (or, the ones I like the least).

Part 1 (1963-65):

You Better Move On
You Can Make It If You Try
Can I Get A Witness
If You Need Me
UNDER THE BOARDWALK
Surprise, Surprise
Everybody Needs Somebody To Love (Short version)
Oh Baby
Good Times
One More Try
I´ve Been Loving You Too Long
My Girl
Blue Turns To Grey

Yeah! Tell me when that's happening - and I'll bring some little devils and turn up, with some drink, grub and good smoke.

I actually love Start Me Up. Probably because there are so many great memories connected to it. Seing Keith walking towards the crowd, playing the opening riffs, and then just over 2 hours in Paradise.
I do have a problem with most of Satanic, though. With the exception of She's A Rainbow, which is a lovely little gem. Just not into acid rock or psychedelia. That was not their finest moment. I can tolerate 2000 Lightyears, too, but it's not among my favourite 200 Stones songs.

I can remember NME's Charles Shaar Murray, some years back, stating that the Rolling Stones hardly ever put anything out that could in any way be described as unlistenable, going as far as to point out that even Satanic Majesties wasn't half as bad as what most critcs would have us believe.

All of which makes it difficult to pinpoint anything that is bad, to the point of being regretable.

If pushed, I'd have to go for "Amanda Jones", "Sing This Song Together (See What Happens)", "She Saw Me Coming", and "Ain't Too Proud To Beg", for the simple reason that they are skip tracks.

I could live easily without any live release of YGMR.

Indian Girl
Don't Stop - possibly the worst track they've ever written.
Suck On The Jugular
Anyway You Look At It
Harlem Shuffle
All of Dirty Work except One Hit To The Body, Too Rude, and Sleep Tonight
Sex Drive
Rock And A Hard Place
Moon Is Up
Losing My Touch
Stealing My Heart
Keys To Your Heart

there are quite a few from 86-2005.

Yes I know what you mean ,Doxa but to my opinion ,Start Me Up is a "too easy song " ,I don't say I didn't like when it came out , but I remember a party at a friend's place somemonths ago ,and she wanted to play a little game -you listen a song and you have to mime and take off ..The only Stones song she knew was SMU....it was horrible ,because she thought she will please me with that one and I had to put my arms up and say "Whouhhh" as Mick does...Awfull !

I am a Frenchie ,as Mick affectionately called them in the Old Grey Whistle Test in 1977 .

is a great song, a lot of tension in this song
...and I agree with you both...

Bootlickers . . .

I concur, which is to say that I like Too Much Blood.

The only (of those mentioned) that I really don't fancy are the political/ historical ballads about blindness (talk about a niche market): Blinded by Rainbows and Blinded By Love. What's next? Blinded by Love Rainbows?

No more Blinded songs, please.

Looks like people are picking alot of songs from Emotional rescue, Undercover Dirty Work and a few from 89 on. I'm surprised at a few people calling out the Brian Jones era.

i'm gonna go with

Shattered

Miss You

Where the Boys Go

Lies

Neighbors

Indian Girl is the first thing that comes to mind. It is SO bad that it is like a really bad Godzilla movie....so bad that it is almost appealing.
Hubby just heard it for the first time last week. His reaction - My &**! The Stones Spinal Tapped themselves.

Nah. "Indian Girl" is a warped, jaded thing. I love it, actually, but I can understand how others can't deal with it.

The Stones' Spinal Tap moment (a great line, by the way) was "I Go Wild" and the bottom half of A Bigger Bang. So embarrassing.

I agree with Mick anything they did before 1968 is basically crap.

A few of these posts are head scratchers; headscratchers because they are posted by people here. How can an answer to this turn into a three part posting with subcategories?
The Stones are here because they did what they did. It's good IMO that they threw some of those real klinkers out there. I' d hate to love every note by them.

-This is a neocon-free posting.

I refuse to read this thread from now on.....I hate fights via the internet

Too Much Blood is cool!

Emotional rescue, give me a break!

OK one more: Streets of Love.

Awful. Schlock.
