Review in Swedish Aftonbladet. Help, please!

Just had a look at the review of the first Stones show in Swedish newspaper "Aftonbladet". I don't understand much of it but what I can figure out from the review ist that it doesn't sound very positive. This is interesting as I remember the reviews of the Licks shows in Sweden were very enthusiastic in the same paper and got 5 points out of 5 ,and not only 2!! Would be grateful if some of our Swedish friends could summarize the criticism in English. What were the things the reviewer didn't like about the show or parts of it, I would like to know . And what were the highlights for him? Thanks in advance. GO SVERIGE !!!

Well, the reviewer says that he's tired of hearing the same songs all over again but he don't complain when somebody else does it, the c**t!! Then he goes on slagging off Shattered, which I think is one of their best songs ever! I could agree that they could play some more new/and lesser known songs but it's a stadium gig so what do you do? I think it's cool that they finished off with IORR but they should use Summer Romance as an opener!!

You're a rag trade girl, You're the queen of porn, You're the easiest lay on the white house lawn!!

If I meet him tonight, I will kick him in the balls so piss will be splattered all around.....stupid bastard. Ok, the gig was not the best I´ve seen, but it was not that bad.

He is actually a guy who loves the stones, his favourite stones song is "tumbling dice" and has always given them great reviews... and he will, later on the road, trust me, this journalists are all the same....

PS: if you want to kick his as, he lives in New York! Enjoy! grinning smiley

He says the same old ”Honky tonk women” again ”Tumbling dice”, the same ”Sympathy for the devil”, samma ”Jumpin’ Jack flash” och samma dam ”Brown sugar”.

Honestly...

He is rigth, he also touches on the fact the the new album is great and the show is spectacular, but if even he thinks it sucks it must have. I have seen this guy write for years. It is too bad every Stones fan know they can do it but as he says they are covards, not to try a diffent set list that we all know is there and would work to sucess.

He has been voted to sweden's most important music journalist several times. He is great, and he will write great things later on, just give him some time... (he's getting old) grinning smiley

May be Aftonbladet did not get a VIP pass or something. Or may be he just did not like the show. But he probably liked the openers.

He gave all the New songs and Shes so cold and Heartbreaker 4 stars, the rest 1-3 stars out of 5. I dont think he would care about the VIP pass too much. What is it BV are we going to see any changes in the set list? or is this what sells $450 tickets to people that don't know much?

Expressen didn't give too good review either

some sign equal to 3 stars

BT in Denmark liked it very much 5/6 - the missing star was because of some mess in the beginning of the show.....

That sounds very promising.

Expressen said it was the same Forty Licks show as the last time, well played but boring. The paper stated also that the Stones are not musically challenging anymore.

Strange review since the band has been following the same concept for a while.

Yeah well they both say its the same song again played for a Vegas-audience and the new songs get better reviews. Keiths songs get 1/5 which seems fair - he can't sing anymore. Maybe in the studio but not onstage.

Getting old? =D What is he - 41? (Nah, Im 26)
Anyway, this journalist is pretty much the only one I put some trust into. Perhaps he's right. But, the guy aint standing in front row. He's probably not as entusiastic as iorr members although he loves the Stones. I remember his words about their music: "it's like honey dripping from the trees" =) or something... Taste that good =)

And, as someone said. This could be a journalist thing... a couple of shows more and he'll be ranting on about their brilliance. And when the show(s) in Sweden is over, he'll be crying tears of happiness, worshipping and applauding!

I agree to you Chewie, (the thing about him oldwas a joke, yesgrinning smiley)... but exaclty as I said and you notised. It will change as closer the tour comes sweden. And he IS a great journalist. Maby the best Swedish. He always stands for what he says. And he never write things just to make big news. He is also a very respectice coloumnist, and I trust him very much too.

"it's like honey dripping from the trees" - that's the comment about the Stones years 68-72grinning smiley. And he's right man!

Think the setlist also will change in time, and in arenas!

Sorry! Did mix up Aftonbladets review with Expressens (the latter is Sweden´s second biggest tabloid); that dude did not go to Boston [expressen.se].

(BersaGurra: ) "He is rigth, he also touches on the fact the the new album is great and the show is spectacular, but if even he thinks it sucks it must have." - What is it with this Trust-the-tabloid-writers-thing... ? There are several other voices we can listen to in the choir, closer than Aftonbladet.

I didnt see the Aftonbladet-writin by Per Bjurman:
Now I´m reading. He is hard but at the same time impressed by the show.
He hopes for some more fresh material. Well, after seeing this I feel some more respect from Bjurman´s writing; but I often find the tabloid-pens too dull. Its just instant amusement. I have far more respect for the scarred-rock-writer below here:

Dagens Nyheter, morning paper in Sweden, writes this [www.dn.se]
...It´s by the tremendously sharp pen of Lennart Pehrson.
He wants some more new material, but shares a bluesy good-will sentiment and even places a smile at Charlies "stone face" while doin the Ray Charles´ cover.
