I see they paid and played tribute to Ray Charles last night.
Very cool move by the band.
But I must ask a question here.
When they were on the Lick's European tour Johnny Cash died & they didn't play anything that night. I would've bet cold hard cash they were going to do a Johnny song.
I wonder why they didn't? Mick & Keith were big fans. Keith even Jammed on stage with The Man in Black.
I wonder what song the Stones could pull off by John?
"I Walk The Line" is too obvious.
Maybe "Big River" ? "Understand Your Man" would be great with Mick singing. They could do something Stonesy with that.
"Well my heavy throbbers itchin' just to lay a solid rhythm down"
The Stones as a whole weren't influenced directly by Johnny. I would never have expected such a tribute. And, they don't usually do off-the-cuff stuff anyway - Night Time was rehearsed extensively, no doubt.

FWIW, the Red Hot Chili Peppers paid tribute to Johnny Cash, they had his picture up on their monitor at, I think it was the Jones Beach show... very very classy gesture.
The Stones have paid tribute to so many people... They worked "we miss you Jerry" for Jerry Garcia into one song they played at Soldier Field on the B2B tour...
Get Up Stand Up Ray Charles ...I´m sure there will treats; but they´re businessmen. At least ruled by one while at tour. His name is Uncle Mick Scrooge Jagger
- And Marhsall: It was never Brian´s band. It was just that he was older than the Glimmerers. Charlie was too; and Stu was older than them.
But the fooker was a hell of a mellotron-player (not many human beings are!), a good sitar-player, and a hell of a Bo Diddley-rhythm keeper. And a fine slider.
