Which are Stones States-USA

Ok, I like the The most fervant Stones Countries in Europe thread but....

In the USA which states are Stones States.

I would have to say Georgia has to be in the top two or three.

Mick had an apartment here.. I know he has one or had one everywhere.
Chuck is from here... okay I don't want to start that debate.

And finally ... The Stones don't think much of Georgia for some reason.. WE got shafted on the NO Security Tour, Only one show on b2b and even though some great theatres and arenas only one show on flicks....but we love them. They Sold out the dome 74000 extremly quickly in 94 and likewise in the following. This tour we got only one show and we should get more. Hell Phillips Arena sold out in a matter of minutes (groupings) and totally that day as best knowledge. Don't neglect us we are loyal and we love the Stones. New York is good but we deserve our due. Well what do you think.

Many Stones fans in Philadelphia for some reason. And then all over USA. IORR members probably in most of the 50 States.

The Bay Area (SF) has always been Stones country since the sixties. Four shows on the licks tour, three (four if you count Sac) on No Security, four on B2B, three on Voodoo and on and on..................

Georgia may get shafted on number of shows, but I think that's more a function of available venues.
When we do get a show, its top-notch-- Ga. Dome 1997 great example.

As far as geographic concentrations of Stones fans in the u.s., charlotte NC is hard to beat.

The Stones love Massachusetts, always play Boston several times on tour and even rehearsed here in the countryside in the 70's. Charlie Watts shops in Boston with his grandkids! They also love Conn, Keith's home state and New York home of MSG. I guess I'm lucky to live here in Massachusetts, close to Conn and New York.

No expectations...don't you mean 5 on No Security (2 sac, 2 san jose, 1 oakland)...including OPENING NIGHT & REHEARSALS!!!

Really...aren't the Stones a state of mind...?

lol...ok...it's cheesy but I could not resist.

I don't want to start one, too, but a gal I know lives in Georgia.
She called me up and said, "Guess who bought a place near here! Chuck Levell!
Cut to 2 months later.
"gusss who bought a place near here and right by Chuck Levell's. Mick Jagger!"
Oh, well...

Time for the boys to play Alaska this tour.

Are there any states in the USA the Stones never played? Out of the 50 states, I think they have played a lot, right? But not Alaska? Any others missing?

" Ok, I like the The most fervant Stones Countries in Europe thread but....

The ones where they come back to repeatedly because they sell well:

Boston, MA, Chicago, IL, New York, NY, Philidelphia, PA, Las Vegas, NV, Los Angeles, CA.

Some states the boys might be less enamored of in recent years:

Detroit, MI, Dallas, TX (though the arena show there, the first in eight years, did sell out), Washington DC,

Certainly it is impressing with many shows in a large city. But it puzzels me every time I go to Charlotte. The city "uptown" town center is so small. Only like 8 x 8 blocks. Yet they sold out Ericsson stadium 1997 and arena later on. Is Charlotte really small or do people just live outside the center? And what is the smallest place in USA with the biggest Stones crowd? Like the Luxembourg equivalent in the States...

Imst and Altamont?

I think with Charlotte you get fans from all over North Carolina as well as parts of Virginia and Eastern Tenn. This is the first tour in a long while that the Stones are coming to Virginia. We usually have to go to D.C. or Charlotte. I love Charlotte.

Charlotte at one time was the fastest growing city in the U.S. I don't know the numbers, but I would guess that it's population has at least tripled in the last 10 years. For a couple of decades now there has been a large population shift from the North to the South, with North Carolina being one of the more significant people-adders. Also, there's nothing "small" about its traffic. Nice city though!

Isn't Altamont in Silicon Valley i.e. close by SF? Lots of people living in the Oakland area and around SF may be all over California going to Altamont? Also may be close to LA? Not so many hours away by car? A sold out show in Alaska would be more impressing I think.

Bjornulf,
I am pretty sure the Stones have never played in the following states...
Vermont, Maine, Rhode Island, West Virginia, New Hampshire, Deleware, Idaho and Alaska.

I am sure I am missing a few, there are many states in the middle of the country that don't have much of anything in them.

As far as the question asked above. I think New York and Connecticut are big time Stones states, I have heard stories of people spotting Mick and Keith in Connecticut as early as 1980. Plus they did that Toad's Place gig which is crazy since my friend's band plays there all the time. And Keith lives right around the corner from me and has his picture posted at almost every bar around here. I think lately Mass has become a big Stones state too, they have been opening their tours there and I know so many people from school that are big Stones fans from Mass.

Luxenbourg isn't either so many hours away by car for a lot of people.

Bjornulf, I am also sure they never bothered playing up in the Northwest of USA. It's only Montana and the Dakotas up there. No big citites.
Yes Cahrlotte is a growing center for everything. The Stones play there quite often.
But I though New Orleans was always incredible. Everytime I go see them there the whole city is revolving around the show. Nowhere else have I seen this. In NO on Stones weekend everyone just says "When will you be at the show?" All know which show you mean and all go!

THat is why I say Luxembourg is not unique, but it is a country of a 1/4 million people, right? Not bad for a big show on a field with 60,000 people. Even if quite a few came by car from around that area. If you have ever been to Luxembourg City then you see what I mean. Like a show in Tallin Estonia. Impressing. Or even Oslo, Norway. 40,000 people is 10% of entire Oslo, 5% of nearby driving.

I'm pretty sure the Stones played Charleston, West Virginia in either 64 or 65.

The States below the Canadian prairie provinces don't have huge cities and I don't think the Stones have played there. Idaho, Wyoming, Montana, North and South Dakota. Also, what about Arkansas?
I think if the Stones were to play a show in one of the States mentioned above, they would draw a huge crowd, similar to the upcoming Moncton show.

West Virginia...it's all relative!

Oh no. Here we go again with the West Virginia jokes. Whether not the Stones ever played in WV is up for debate. However, West Virginia was mentioned in "Dancin' With Mr. D:

"lookin' down a .44 in West Virginny..."

At any rate, I'd shit if the Stones ever came (back?) to West Virginia.
