Ace Frehley: At one time, the Rolling Stones were the essence of what a real rock roll band should be: swagger, great licks, controversy and confidence. Keith Richards was a big influence on me, and on the 1979 Kiss album Dynasty, I paid respect to Keith and Mick by covering their song 2000 Man. It became a signature song for me, and some fans to this day think it was a song I wrote! When I see those guys still touring and going strong, it inspires me to get it together and tour. The Stones still got a few years on me!!
Im a big Kiss fan, and ive read several articles from Ace paying compliments to The Stones throughout the years. Ace usually sees the Stones when the come to MSG and he has developed a friendship with Keith. I believe there are some photos out there with Keith wearing Ace's guitar strap. If you dont have anything by Kiss as far as albums/CD's are concerned. Then please go get Kiss Alive. Great CD
I was nver a member of the Kiss Army myself and have long held the belief that without their makeup they were just a second rate band. However i did like "Hard Luck Women" As to Ace's comment on the Stones well said Mr. Frehley...
Ace Frehley did the "New York Groove". One of the clips further up has Kiss playing acoustic guitars and harmonizing, and...they are really good. Not just considering that they are Kiss, and are idiots; but good as in 'good'.
Without the makeup they are just another terrible garage band. With the make up, they are somehow fantastic entertainment. Still an awful garage band - horrible musicians - but a lot of fun.
