Stones Rockabilly Songs

Hello all,
I am building a rockabilly playlist. It has many of your favs on it and of course some Stones.I am being a little liberal with some of the stuff I put on (Havana Moon for example). I am wondering if you all can help me add more Stones to this list.

So far I have:

She's So Cold
Let Me Go
Could Have Stood You Up
Wandering Spirit
She Said Yeah
Tallahassie Lassie
One Night With You (maybe)

I have left off Chuck Berry covers becuase I added chuck instead.

Please add to the list!

Also if you have any obscure non Stones stuff, PLMK.

I have a lot of Gene Vincent,Cochran,Stray Cats,Setzer, Lee Rocker, Billy Riley, Horton Heat, dick Dale, Junior Brown, Chuck, Link, Cramps, robert Gordon,Willy Deville etc..

thanks!

Very cool project.

Three of my favorite Stones tracks that might fit into what you're doing:

"Turd On The Run"
"Had It With You"

and

"Linda Lu" (Some Girls-era outtake which I actually have on a disc that you were kind enough to send me awhile back)

also:

Everything by Johnny Burnette's Rock and Roll Trio (guitarist Paul Burlison did a late-90's remake of "Lonesome Train (On A Lonesome Track)" with Rick Danko and Levon Helm that absolutely kills me.)

"Deuce And A Quarter" Keith Richards & Scotty Moore with The Band.

Of course, "Baby, Let's Play House" and "Mystery Train" and basically everything from Elvis's "Sun Sessions." If you've never checked out the "'68 Comeback Special"...some of the performances there are blinding. The now out-of-print Tiger Man album is just "sit-down" sessions.

Tom Petty has done some ace rockabilly covers: "Lonely Weekends" and "Baby, Let's Play House" among them.

I'll think of more..."Wandering Spirit" is a killer, eh?

Thank you both. I am actually doing live and studio playlists and Elvis 68 Special will be a big part ogf that. Johnny Burnette is being widley used as is many many songs from Sun's glory days. Wandering Spirit is awesome. I'm up in the air with some of Ripp's solo stuff.

I'd forgotten about Lindu Lu.

I am using Eddie Cochran's Twenty Flight Rock on the studio Disk and the Stone on the live disc.

Claudine (the rockabilly version, that is!)
Little T&A has some rockabilliness about it as well
especially if your definitions are broad enough for Havana Moon :E

I wouldn't classify any of these songs as rockabilly, at least in it's purest sense. I guess it really comes down to how you define it. Keith's use of the slap back echo on She's So Cold for instance was certainly inspired by rockabilly but the song's structure otherwise seems straight ahead rock and roll. Of songs in the Stones canon, Claudine comes the closest to rockabilly, at least in my view...

yes....as I said. I am being liberal and after all..it is my playlist. smiling smiley

I'm not really to much about being a purist. I mean, Billy Riley, Warren Smith, Ronnie Self, Wanda Jackson,Bill Kerchin etc..certainly blur the lines.

I forgot about Claudine! excellent choice.

BTW:
Have you all heard Junior Brown? this guy is amazing. Has a double neck guitar:
one neck is a regualr guitar, the other is a lap steel!

" SUSIE Q"-the only bona fide rockabilly song on the first few albums!
Cafaro- Junior Brown is a gas! He calls his custom made gear a "git-steel"! He mixes bluegrass instrumentals with Hendrix songs live alot.

Have you thought about any Stray Cats tunes?

Also, if you're a fan of early Rockabilly, I got a 10 CD Box Set off Amazon called simply Rock 'N' Roll which turned out to be (in my opinion) far closer to Rockabilly than Rock 'N' Roll. Link to the amazon page I just found advertizing it: [www.amazon.com]

Note: for anyone interested in early R&B (pre rock & roll) the Rhythm & Blues collection from the same series is very good. Amazon link for that set: [www.amazon.com]

Another artist to look for is Chris Isaac. Not sure if he's got any pure rockabilly recordings but I know that he and is band can pull off the style when they play it.

Good luck!

Break the Spell from Steel Wheels is rockabilly influenced.

Looking Tired appears to sit on the fence, with one leg in rockabilly's back yard.

On the internet nobody knows
you're Mick Jagger

The Stray Cats, Setzer and Lee Rocker are used widely on this. I love Lee Rocker.

I agree about Break the Spell but unfortunatley I really don;t like it. In fact, Steel Wheels in my least favorite of asll Stones albums.
Thanks

Thanks Rockman! That's the stuff I need. Some of these are obscure...at least to me.

I have a tom of Sun stuff....have you all heard the Million Dollar Session? It's pretty interesting to hear these raw talents. When you listen to this stuff you realize that Elvis was really something.......such a waste.
