Being required to take "furlough" days - mandatory days off without pay - from teaching school.
Also, I sell and appraise real estate. It really slowed down, but seems to be coming back since about April 2009 in Georgia.

Mr Jimmy
Hmmm, in January this year I took on a pub. Things are going ok, but the place was totally killed by the two previous landlords, so I have to rebuild the place in terms of customers, giving the place a lick of paint, etc... It is busier than it was, without a doubt, but I still need to get it busier. Other experienced landlords I have spoken to say I need to give myself two years to get the place back up to speed, with a good trade. It's been almost seven months and there are improvements and lots of good feedback from new customers. However, alot of pubs are suffering. But I don't think the economy is the main reason.
A lot of pubs are quiet in the UK, and depending on who you talk to, there is a different reason for it. The economy is one part, but then, you see some pubs that are very busy almost every night of the week.
People are spending less money, that's true, but, people will always go to the pub for a pint. To be sociable, to drown their sorrows over job loss, to celebrate etc etc...
Over here, there are other problems facing pubs, such as the availability of really cheap booze in supermarkets, the high tax / duty on alcohol, the smoking ban. The pubs that are doing well have good promotions, serve good food, have entertainment and activities to draw people in.
So I guess the economy is affecting me, but if I continue with this venture, continue to work really hard, serving up really nice food and drink, and work on entertainment (live music is coming soon!) then I really do think I'll be able to make a good living out of it, but not for a while yet...
One of these days I'm going to make it back across the pond.
I wouldn't mind knowing where your place is at, Mr. Jimmy.

S! Employers have no sympathy for those WAITING to hear!! Plus, I know the position is still being advertised, JUST GREAT. I'm sure those of your friends with jobs say, " STAY POSITIVE"!! Yeah, right! That is one thing I struggle with daily. Now I have to hang in for another interview which by now is NOT THRILLING ME! What else could I possibly tell them about myself??

I didn't "bait" you - I never even saw your handle before. I consider this won & done. Adios! Now I'm really heading out. Sorry for any bruised feelings.

Of course you didn't bait me deliberately, you really mean what you wrote. And don't be a hypocrite, you are not sorry for anything.

...all I can say is that we are aggressively going after these folks and enforcement will increase in the years to come. My agency is hiring like crazy, and this is one of the reasons why.
