Check out honestmans post...who can tell us the mistake.

The Flyin' Burrito Brothers = Wild horses

Bobby WOMACK = It's all over now

Strange choice 'cause even though Bobby later rerecorded it
he also wrote it and sang on the original by The Valentinos 1964 .....

You're right, and i prefer the rerecording one which features on Paint it Blue
as...a cover!

I'm surprised no one has mentioned Steve Earle and the Supersuckers version of Before They Make Me Run. That comes very close to out-rocking the original and puts the guitars in your face more than any Stones or Winos live version I have ever heard. I demo my stereo with it sometimes. It's on a rare EP CD.

Patti Smith did a pretty powerful 'Gimme Shelter' recently.

way cool !! winking smiley

steve's version of "dead flowers" live is hotter than hot...available (i think it's still available) on the live album he did on a Canadian label circa The Dukes (version 1)....incredible album...incredible cover....really so...
steve intros it as a song from a 'hillbilly band from England' super super cover...ALL stones fans should at least give this gem a listen...very satisfying... circa early nineties...each time i've seen steve live he's pulled out a Stones cover, and made it stick!

I think the Black Crowes do Torn & Frayed better than the Stones live, but no one can touch the original studio version.

One take of Steve Earle's Dead Flowers is on a Live BBC disc released in the US just this year but recorded many years ago in England with the Dukes as his backup band. It's a slower tempo and sneaks up on you, building to an amazing crescendo of guitars and junkie angst.

I love this!! Been a Steve Earle fan for a few years now and I have never heard this. Cool find - thanks!

Oh and to stay on topic, my votes would be the already-mentioned "Brown Sugar" by Ryan Adams and Beth Orton (sexy as hell), "Let's Spend The Night Together" by David Bowie, "Let's Spend the Night Together" again by Muddy Waters, and "Dead Flowers" by Townes Van Zandt.

- To each his own, but this is for me the absolute worst Stones cover in my own book.

My number one cover version has to be Johnny Winter and JJF. The energy on Johnnys performance cannot be beaten

Sorry, but i think their version is better than a lot : they made THEIR version, without reproducing the version of the Stones.
And i don't think that Gavin Friday is the lackey of Bono. They were childhood friends.

I like I'm Free by the Soup Dragons. It's a totally different song, but still cool.

There's 2000 Man by KISS, but I doubt anyone would put that on their "best of" list

Wasn't looking too good, but I was feeling real well.

Oh thanks!

I don't love KISS, but I like them ok.

Back in the NY Groove is my favorite, I just played it for my son this past weekend.

This one is great, but live only. I don't like the studio version from the Dynasty album.
