Questions about TFI Friday Interviews

I watched last week the TFI interviews Chris Evans made in 1999 and I loved it !!!

I was really pleased and proud because I understood at least 90 % of what they said .Except for some parts I'm not sure I got the point .Could you help me please ?

1/Does Charlie say he can't drive ? (No driver 's license ??)
Of course he's got a "chauffeur" nowadays ,but how did he manage on the early days ? Ian wasn't always with him.

2/What's the story with the venue in England ?
Jagger said they could miss the benefit of 80 shows ?? "It was awfull ,horrible "
What are "outsides forces " ?

I think Charlie has a collection of classic cars but still does not know how to drive (or have a UK driving licence, more accurately).

The Stones 'had to' postpone some shows from 1998 as our Great Leader here (Gordon "Useless/Greedy' Brown) is always changing the rules to milk us Brits of all our hard-earned cash and bankrupt the country. Ooops -strayed into politics there!

Hope that helps...

I don't blame them. I'd do the same, esp. when you see how our taxes are totally wasted by the burnt-out & clueless British govt we have.

Of course, if they did play the shows on those dates they would lost most of the profit of the tour so that doesn't make much sence, does it.

part of the point made in the interview (if uncaffeinated memory serves)
was that it wasn't only the Stones who would have been hit with those taxes
but also British members of the entourage.

another part of the picture is that the change in the tax system was - weirdly - being applied retrospectively.
it really was a bizarre situation.

Thanks for your answer. No need to get into political point of view, because most of big bands and big firms are doing the same, don't they ?

A translation of Jagger's words would be enough for me winking smiley

C.E . -You're coming to England,soon ?
M.J. -Ya.
C.E -In the summer .It didn't happened last year ...
M.J.-No,it was awfull ,horrible.
C.E. -Can we talk about that ?
M.J.-Yeah,of course we (you) can .It was a horrible moment. When we realized that...outsides forces.....that made it financially a nightmare .It was really infortunate .If we 'd done the shows in England when they were supposed to be done we would have lost sort of profit from 80 shows or something ..it was very complex.
C.E.-But the tickets were sold ?

Am I correct in the translation ? I wrote it as I understood it.But what does he say at 0.59/1.06 ?
Thanks.
