Seems like I saw a photo once of Mick playing an acoustic at R n R Circus during an alternate take of Cant Always Get? ( or maybe I'm imagining things)

Yup, and there's a recording of atleast one of those takes too. thumbs up

I finally got around to listening to the 12x5 version and to the only other version I have - it's on a boot called Live in London 1965 and is a short extract that fades after only 1.23. Is this the "BBC version?" Anyway, this short extract has clearly got no organ, 2 guitars, and to my ears a different harp player to the 12x5 track. IMHO it's Brian on the album and Mick on my "BBC version".

Another question: on the album track at around 2.10 - 2.15, the guitar plays quieter and quieter until somebody gives a shout - and then it comes back in with a great loud blues lick and somebody clearly says "Well done!". Now the voice sounds like Keith to me - but why would he do this if it's him playing guitar (which also sounds like him?) Or else whose voice is that?

Green Lady - isn't the 12x5 version a short one? Only 2:10 - 2:15 long about?

I hear it now; it's the Chess version. Keith is clearly coming down; and then Jagger (?) goes "Yeah" and the guitar come sin; the "well done" (I had never heard that before) IMO could be anyone.

I think the lead is Keith for sure.

I'm not Green Lady but want to point out that the most recent CD release (the SACD one) is the full-length version, longer than the previous, truncated vinyl version. Just FYI.

Yes, my 12x5 is the SACD version and 2120 South Michigan runs for 3:40.
