Memory Motel, by a mile.

Great SOUND and groove on this album, but its a bit lightweight in terms of fine SONGS.

I love the album, particularly Memory Motel, Crazy Mama and Fool to Cry.

And it has what might be the best cover photography of all of the albums. What is Keith whispering to Mick??

Can anyone post any alternative photos from those sessions (the front cover or the 'white suits and sparklers' ones)? Don't think i've ever seen any variants.

cheers

Only 1 weak track for me Cherry Oh Baby. The rest just excellent. Has anyone heard a better live song than Hand of Fate???

you hang around this place long enough and throw out opinions left and right and eventually somebody's bound to agree with something you say - just the law of averages....

the problem with black and blue is that it is too short in terms of real good songs.

it has a few though.

crazy mama and memory motel are really good.

fool to cry, hand of fate, hey negrita and hot stuff are ok at best.

the overall sound production on the album is excellent, its a pity there wasnt more quality songs to give the album a real edge to it.

IMO, the title of this thread should have been

The worst song on the "Wonderful and Amazing"Black and BLue

In this case, i will answer "Cherry oh Baby"

Telling you a secret (not actually for insiders): Black And Blue is the favourite album of one of the major HipHop acts from my country.

Memory Motel

I think B&B is a great album, not disastrous at all!

I remember playing Cherry Oh Baby and Hey Negrita to people who didn't like Reggae and they were amazed. Mick's role play on the video to HN explained a lot to those who didn't understand the lyrics.

Hand of Fate

Like all the Stones albums that are supposed to be "disastrous" this has a lot of good things waiting to be discovered - although whatever it is that people love about Hot Stuff, it's one of the few tracks that does nothing for me.

Is it possible to cancel the word DISASTROUS from the title of this thread?
Everytime I link to Iorr and read it I feel a cramp at my stomach..

Cherry Oh Baby is a little gem.

I wrote in this case, i like the whole album!
In fact in 1976, when i first listenened to this album , i thought "Cherry oh Baby"
was the worst song of the LP.
But like the wine, with years it taste better!
And i'm agree with you , now i think it's an underated song!winking smiley

There is nothing wrong with the thread title. The whole thing is a jab at ukulele69 for calling it that so I wanted to use that to get people to be a bit more expressive about the album. So far it seems everyone loves or likes that album - even ukulele69.

Thanks, Swaystones. Always loved that photo - how cool do they look, Charlie like some mafioso, Keith just looks great.

I just bought a white suit to wear at my brother's wedding!

Anyone have any alternative shots from these BaB photo sessions?

Hand Of Fate...the last of the truly great signature Keith guitar riffs imo. Simple, yet powerful.
And the lead guitar from Wayne Perkins? Perfection.
