OT: Cat Stevens

I have recently purchased a Best Of Cat Stevens CD and cannot beleive it has taken me such a long time to appreciate the beauty of his songwriting. I pariculary enjoy the likes of Moon Shadow and Morning Has Broken: the piano introduction in the latter is the finest piece of music I have heard recently - wonderful playing.

Are there any fans here?

Yes...I have a few Cat Stevens cds.....and more recently, since I set up my ol' turntable, I've been
finding some nice CS vinyl at local rummage sales. Great voice..nice music. Didn't listen to him much
in the '70s because i wanted louder & more rebellious rock & roll....but now that I'm mid 40s...it's a welcome
alternative. He still has his voice. Check out his recent release. Also appeared on a recent Chris Isaak show.
Look for it on youTube. Check out the movie Harold & Maude too.

IORR............but I like it!

That's Rick Wakeman from Yes. I love listening to is "the Piano album" many great songs in which he played, like Bowies life on Mars?

Anyway, yes, Cat Steves is huge.

NICOS

This is the first time I've ever heard First Cut is the Deepest by Cat Stevens. I wasn't aware he wrote it. That version, IMO, is far superior than Rod's cover. Thanks for posting.

A few years ago, Yussuf Islam (the former Cat Stevens) was en route to the US to perform and was stopped by Immigration, detained and deported. Apparently someone of the same name was on the No Fly list. Jon Stewart's comment the next night was beautiful: We can't find Obama, but we got the guy who wrote Peace Train!

Tea for the Tillerman and Teaser and the Firecat are his masterpieces. No collection complete without them, IMHO.
