I'll go with "Kiss You All Over". spinning smiley sticking its tongue out

Really:

Torn and Frayed

Several running a close second:

Shine A Light
Let It Loose
Sweet Virginia
Rocks Off

Side three.

Good point, but I'll take it three steps forward...

I think Exile is kinda like the band itself...

The sum is greater than the individual parts...

But, if I have to pick one, I'll go with Tumblin' Dice...what a song...

Rocks Off

Yeah, it's possible to view Exile as a single entity, rather than a collection of songs. I agree that the whole is somehow greater than the sum of the parts. But, back to the question -- out of a number of excellent songs, I'll go with "Rocks Off" as the best song in the context of the album.

totally agree. The single songs on Exile arent' as good as the ones on Sticky Fingers or Let it Bleed separately, but the whole album actually is the best thing they ever done.
It has made to be listened interely, sort of a concept album to me

anyway my fav on it are

All down the line
shine a light
loving cup
sweet black angel
sweet virginia
stop breaking down
tumbling dice

Rocks Off is my favorite , what an opener !! One of those you never forget ..

All Down The Line.

I am a Frenchie ,as Mick affectionately called them in the Old Grey Whistle Test in 1977 .

I have to agree Rocks Off is one of the greatest Stones album openers ever-and then Rip This Joint dont even miss a beat. As a matter of fact they coulda put side one on an EP and had a million seller right there!

Side 1, side 2 , side 3 and side 4. How can I choose among this alpha and omega of music.

I think the sexiest song on the record is SBD. I was surprised to recall that Keith does not even play on it.

...certainly Let It Loose is Mick's best performance on record ever.....All Down The Line and Rocks Off are both great RS numbers.

sweet virginia

Let it loose for me (obviously). That song has such a dreamlike quality. The talent just dripped off them back then. For rockers I would pick the slam dunk opening of Rocks Off and Rip this joint.

Apparently Just wanna see his face is Tom Waits' favourite!

Yeah, the whole thing but to pick one Ive gotta go with TD. I remember recently watching a re run of entrourage where this song was used and I thought to myself "God, that sounds good!". Its pretty impressive for a song to still surprise you and make you think that after hearing it for so many years.

So often have I asked myself that question; can't come up with a right answer. On of the few instances I just have to say "all of them". There is not one song that I could not make a case for as being the best song on there.

Let it loose

Let It Loose.

Unquestionably Mick's finest EVER vocal performance. Especially in the 2nd half of it.

Rounding out the rest of the top 5:

Torn & Frayed
Tumbling Dice
Stop Breaking Down
Soul Survivor

How about the worst songs on Exile, which would be everything besides Rocks Off, Rip This Joint, Tumbling Dice, Sweet Virginia, Happy, and All Down the Line. Outside of those 6 songs, the rest of the album sucks.

it's a unity, picking one song is a sin.
however, my favorite side is that most bluesy one.

haha. before you get killed here:
I used to think quite the same. Sticky Fingers for me was the definitive Stones' album, and I thought Exile was too long.

how mistaken I was! tongue sticking out smiley it'll grow on ya.
put it on the loudest you can and let it grow :-)
