Track Talk: "I'm Alright" from "got LIVE if you..." EP

It sometimes takes me awhile to recognize absolute brilliance. I was listening on headphones out on my deck in the middle of the night and started jumpin' around like a little kid. So ridiculously primitive and great-might even be worth the price of the first singles box...

Bring it on the road for 2010, I say!

Been listening to the Stones since '81 and still coming to terms with the majesty of The Catalogue.

I'm not sure of the origin, it's my first view of this clip. Someone in the forum will know.

The Footage is from the NME Poll Winners Concert 1964

Great tune. Credited to Nanker/Phelge, but in fact a Bo Diddley-composition.

Has there ever been any footage of the 1968 NME Poll Winners Concert? I've searched youtube without success. They played JJF.... would be good to find a clip.

Strange how sometimes they sing I'm Alright and other times It's Alright. Love Brian's buzzsaw guitar sound on this track and also at the end when Mick says Well all right, well all right, etc. I'm sure most on this board know that the version on the Got Live LP is Mick dubbing his vocals over this version.

I like got Live if you want it, but never cared for this song. to me its like the YGMR of the 60's.

This song has always been my favourite on Got Live. But the video version above is even better, I think, it's both good fun and good music.

Not on the official UK ep 1965 version which is what is on the LP.

It's very repetitive. Mick sounds like he's got the Rock and Roll tourette's syndrome.

Not my favorite, exactly, but they do pump out a lot of energy at that pollwinners concert, and it's interesting to see how prominent Brian is, compared to just months later...

I absolutely love that clip!
Great tune, always been one of my favorites from Out of Our Heads!

Simple structure and lyrics but it really showed the rock 'n roll they had compared to the other bands around that time.

Cheers,
Wuudy

It depends on which LP you are referring to. The EP version is not the version on the album GOT LIVE IF YOU WANT IT! but it is the version on the US edition of OUT OF OUR HEADS.

I'm torn by this album because it features so many studio overdubs; still I'd rather listen to this than Live Licks.

original UK EP - no overdubs. 2 tracks, including this one, can be heard on December's Children.

check that, Tricky - "I'm Alright" is on Out of Our Heads, and "Route 66" and "I'm Moving On" are on December's. You also might want to look into whether it was reissued with the Abkco remasters in 2002... seem to recall it was.

NME Poll Winners Concert 1964

and I was referring to his physical presence, the amount of energy he conveyed and how much a part of the "show" he was...not so much what he was playing and singing...

It aint supposed to have deep lyrics! Its a stone cold RAVE UP like when the Yardbirds did "Here Tis"(those Diddley beats are great for this!) or the Animals would do "Talkin Bout You"(not the Berry tune)

thanks texas fan--I meant, what show from months later are you thinking of that he seems less energetic on? I guess you mean all of 'em.

Yes, all of what I've seen, that is, but it was a process. I didn't mean that he was as detached by the end of '64 as he would be in the end...just different already.

The track was not on the LP "Got LIVE if you want it"? Was it?

The EP version's music is the same as the LP version with Mick overdubbing new vocals. As many here know, some of the Got Live LP isn't true live versions such as Fortune Teller being the studio version with cheering added as well as I've Been Loving You Too Long.
