All the things said in this thread about CCR's greatness are true. They were a phenomenally creative band with a visionary leader/songwriter who churned out classic singles one after another. Oh, and one more thing - I hate them. Classic hits radio has so burned me out on CCR that I absolutely can't stand them now. Can I say that? Or am I in trouble?

Chorus:
Vanz can't dance, but he'll steal your money,
Watch him or he'll rob you blind. (x 4)

Chorus

Out in the street a crowd is gatherin',
Pushed down by the heat of the building, they're wantin' to dance.
Makin' their way up the street, a boy with a pig and a radio;
Little billy can work on the crowd, put 'em into a trance,
For the little pig vanz.

Chorus

You're watchin' 'em dance, not a care in the world;
So billy and vanz get busy, they're makin' their move;
The little pig knows what to do, he's silent and quick, just like oliver twist;
Before it's over, your pocket is clean,
A four-legged thief paid a visit on you.

On the first pressings of the album, the song was titled "Zanz Can't Dance"

Threats of legal action made them re-title/re-record it.

Best American band ever. And I have one of those early pressings with Zanz Can't Dance!

Man, if you want to hear how a band disintegrates, listen to their last album. Basically they other two wanted things split evenly 3 ways, so Fogerty said fine, then we'll each do a 3rd of the album, we'll each sing a 3rd of the album, we'll each write a 3rd of the album, and we'll each produce a 3rd of the album.

I think he made his point as 2/3 of that album is alost unbearable to listen to (well...by CCR standards).

If they had stuck together they'd be playing the stadium league. But I think they might have a similar problem as The Stones (in a bigger size!). They are too concentrated on John and regarding his solo works (that I have but don't drive me around the bend anymore, so to say) he didn't develop much "novelties" or adapted his style to the times. Therefore, they might have run out of hits by the time anyway. A more interesting piece of work would be to compile the never released Beatles albums after the split out of the solo works of the four. Any big Beatles expert out there to open a new thread?!

I've seen Fogerty solo 3 times. Terrific shows all of them. Even when his voice gave out at the end of the show at the Nokia in LA a couple years ago. When I saw him at a small club in downtown San Francisco about 4-5 years ago. It still ranks as one of my top 5 shows all time. The night he did Wrote a Song for Everyone. I didn't even know it was an old CCR song. That's what I love about his shows. He will dig into the CCR catalog. He also did Tombstone Shadow. Damn, that was a good show.>grinning smiley<

Fantastic band! Have their boxset, so have all their recorded output. Can anyone tell me what the heck is CCRevisited? Is that the other members touring without John then?? I've always wondered that.

First band I saw in concert, age 10, Boston Garden 1971...I screamed and prolly wet my pants during that wonderful 50 minute set (Booker T & the MGs and I think Bo Diddley opened - wow). What's so odd and amazing is that all those classic singles and the five classic albums (Bayou thru Pendulum) all came out between January 1969 and December 1970. Talk about a creative peak!
IMO these last digipak remasters from late '08 are the best ever except maybe Steve Hoffman's transfers (on DCC gold disc) in the mid '90s, way better than the boxed set or 2000 tranfers, even if most of the bonus stuff is marginal. Fave underrated CCR: "Hideaway" (Pendulum) - what soul and compassion!; "Long as I Can See The Light" and "Ramble Tamble"...
CCR WERE stadium league in 1969 - 71, its just that no one was playing stadiums. "Cosmos" spent 9 weeks at # 1 in Billboard. They were bigger than say The Doors by '69 if you look at singles and album charts, bigger than The Band. Only Hendrix, The Stones, and Led Zep may have had that level of popularity.

Saw Fogerty live from the front row at a small outdoor venue in Vermont last summer with my 17-year-old son. At the start, he looked at me as if to say "Dad, WTF is wrong with you?" By the end, he was screaming too.

Someday Never Comes from the unfortunate album Mardi Gras is my sleeper favorite. Really poignant.

los lobos have been routinely selling out theater runs at places like the fillmore for decades, with little or no help from support acts. creedence clearwater revisited plays venues of similar size to los lobos, as well.

all kinds of acts choose to play fairs and festivals, not because they have no alternatives, but because there's good money there and it's fun to play outdoors. guys like dylan, even at times when he was selling out arenas, would drop in on the occasional county fairgrounds....

...sorry, your case has been dismissed due to insufficient evidence....
