The irony of someone complaining about "foul language music" on a Rolling Stones board is priceless.
But go look up Wait (the Whisper song). That's the kind of filthy lyrics kids listen to today. Big difference between Stones foul language and plain out nastiness.

No difference at all. 40 years ago, concerned parents were saying the exact same thing about @#$%&, a song which back then must have been A LOT more shocking than that song you are referencing here today. @#$%& got the band into a lot of trouble but they kept fighting for their right to express themselves the way they wanted to and they got it released.
Therefore, whether you like it or not, The Stones are among the forefathers of "foul language music", i.e. FREEDOM OF EXPRESSION in culture.

First of all I am not a Green Day fan but I do think that if a store happens to be the only retailer selling music in much of the United States- land where they happen to do business and make plenty of money at it- AND they want to stock albums in a censored format then they should (not that they are LEGALLY BOUND!) stock it in an uncensored format as well...
There is such a thing as corporate social responsibility you know?
No one is saying that they are LEGALLY bound to sell it.. of course they have the legal right not to sell something! Who said anything different?
The issue is that if they want to sell it- which they clearly do as they requested a censored version- then they should also offer the uncensored one..
I mean geez there are people over 21 who want to hear the thing!
That's just the way things are sometimes. I used to live in Alaska and I had to order all my music online. We didn't even have a Wal-Mart. We had to buy music from like K-Mart (which never even seemed to have music). So I can feel the pain of those people who all they have is a Wal-Mart. But life sucks sometimes. Simple fact.

Life sucks??? Thats your justification of Walmart ridiculous policies?
How about you try this one on for size cause I think it fits a lot better than "life sucks sometimes": Walmart sucks. There is absolutely no reason they can't carry the artists intended release. None. You'll say "they don't have to!".. Yeah, so what? Doesn't mean they shouldn't.

Although I think there is a big difference between @#$%& and the song I mentioned, I totally agree with you about @#$%& being a big deal at the time of it's release and the Stones helping to usher in freedom of expression. Light My Fire got a lot of heat back in the sixties too. But @#$%& is rather tame when you compare it to the lyrics of Wait (the whisper song). Even Satisfaction was pretty dang offensive at the time.

It all comes down to this (and I don´t think we disagree here): Green Day (who I think suck BTW) has the right to write as many dirty lyrics for their crappy songs as they want to and WalMart has the right not to sell the album in question.
Fine with me if WalMart has a problem with artists who use their right of freedom of expression and bans the Green Day record, but that won´t prevent anyone who wants to purchase it from doing so from WalMarts business competitors. That´s what a free country is all about...

I wasn't saying life sucks about Wal-Mart not carrying uncensored music. I was saying life sucks because some people live in the middle of nowhere (like I used to) and don't have easy access to music CD's. Why shouldn't they carry it? Because they don't want to. Just like how they don't want to sell Laserdisc players either. I still can't believe everyone is making a big deal over Wal-Mart not selling some dumb CD.

Yes, I totally agree. If Wal-Mart wants to not sell the album and know they will lose sells, then that is fine with me. They can go ahead and stop selling all music for all I care.

I applaud Wal-Mart. At least there's one place in America that doesn't sell that rap crap to kids with all the foul cursing. If they only want to sell censored albums, then that's their prerogative. I'm sure there's people complaining on some other forum that they don't sell pornos or NC-17 movies. Wal-Mart makes it possible for my 9 year old brother to buy edited System of a Down albums that he usually would never be able to listen to because of the cursing. Plus, Green Day is the worst of the worst when it comes to mainstream, corporate crap music.

And one day I got the official "Still Life" as a cassette as a birthday present. That's my treasure because ... no, it bears no bonus tracks as you might expect from Asian records ... because it is censored in a very weird way. It even got some lines from the censorship ministery!
Well, it passed but lost a bit: No "Let's Spend The Night Together" (pure porn, isn't it?), no Hendrix's Star Spangled Banner (pure political porn, isn't it?) and out of Shattered each line containing the word (well, t h a t three-letter-word that's quite often repeated in that song) is cut out...
Those censored versions you have are probably quite rare to the US and the european folks.
Yes, and if you play the whole tape on a car trip (for example) and it's finished you really wonder that you missed something. It's simply too short. And, of course, Shattered, is a bit strange to sing the lyrics to as they are cutting or jumping text lines or lines don't rhyme to each other...

Basically for you its all about the law.
I happen to think that there are things huge corporations ought to do out of a sense of a responsibility to the community over and beyond what is legislated. Since Walmart is the only music vendor throughout a large part of the US and since they WANT to carry Green Day's album I think they ought to be willing to carry it in the version the band put together.
There is no disagreement about their "right" not to carry the record in its untampered format.
But I am sure an argument could be made that its one thing for a corporation not to carry a product for X,Y, and Z reasons and another entirely to practice what amounts to censorship of freedom of expression. There is a difference...and many teenagers in those parts of the country where Walmart is the only game in town will not be able to buy the album because they don't purchase and can't purchase music online. You'll say tough shit I suppose.... and let their parents get it for them (which of course is rather impractical for many reasons not to mention their parents may not be able to be purchase items online either).
And lastly what would you say if Walmart refused to stock water and other essential products? Would you still think "tough shit"...??? Its their right I'm sure but again there is such a thing as corporate social responsibility and you might want to consider that before jumping to the "The company can do whatever it wants..." bandwagon

So in Alaska - you said "We had to buy music from like K-Mart" - so there were stores that were LIKE K-Mart? What were they, T-Mart? B-Mart? Some other name? Those are 'like' K-Mart.
That's different than buying music at K-Mart.

Wow. I was saying there are lame stores, like: K-Mart, BX on the Air Force Base. I literally meant K-Mart, not a store THAT IS LIKE K-Mart.
What a waste of a post dude.
Learn how to read. I said, "We had to buy music from like K-Mart". Not "We had to buy music from STORES like K-Mart".
