Got this from a fan by e-mail. Comments please!

Just wondering if Iam the only to notice that Star star has been censored on the 2009 reissue of Goat Head soup.
I qiute annoyed at this considering the fight the Stones had to get the track released. After 30 years this is like tampering with a historical document.
In the song the line "I heard about yor cordorouys, now thats what I call obescne, the tricks with the fruit are kinda cute I bet you keep your p..sy clean".
the last line has been obscured.
I can't believe that the Stones could be aware of this.
Are we to expect future reissues in the 2009 remasters to be censored?
I hope fans take up this issue and the Stones themselves get to hear about it.

Thanks IAN

Cordoroys - I thought it was Polaroids.

I talked with guys from Universal Brasil. What they said were they used the original versions released in 1973.
I think bad but were what they talk.

Yeah on Spotify it's the pussy Mick sings. Surely "giving head to Stve McQueen" is more offensive? Or maybe singing Starfuc*er throughout the song is offensive. Oh well. Nothing like a good mass debate so to speak......

I was thinking the same .Then they had to censored the whole song ...
Will they do the same with the reissue of "girls just wanna get f****d all night
I just dont have that much jam " ???
This sounds worse to me ...

I can't see anything wrong in avoiding IORR from getting categorized as a porn site. If everybody could post pictures of naked people and unappropriate language then private as well as work site filters would block IORR like they do with any other porn. People have lots of such filters at home as well. Internet is full of crap. I get more than 100 offers for all kinds of medical products to improve my performance every day. They are stopped by my e-mail filters. Without these filters e-mail and the web would be a war zone. I know. The web is my profession...

Good thing indeed, especially when some forums (some will know what I mean ...) turn to non sense dialogs and "insults playground ".

According to Roy Carr's "An illustrated record" Mick wrote to Steve McQueen to secure an undertaking that he wouldn't sue!

This thread makes me feel special, having had the pleasure of seeing our Boys do " Star, Star" live, using all of the great language it's imfamous for!! I didn't know at the time that I was witnessing a piece of Stones history!! I remember laughing! It actually was a fun song in concert!!

The Stones have reached new lows. This is the final straw for me. Up till now, I bought anything that came out, went to at least 6 shows a tour etc, etc. I'm done with the Stones; any new Stones that is. I'm not paying 500.00 for anymore seats. Screw Mick Jagger, screw Michael Cole, screw Keith for just standing there and posing with the guitar. How difficult is it to be The Rolling Stones anyways? You get paid incredibly well, people kiss your butt all the time and you screw the most loyal fans by reissuing this garbage? The Stones could have done so much with this opportunity, but failed once again...nothing new I suppose. Oh, the once Greatest Rock 'n Roll band, is now the Greatest Cut n Run band----steal your money right from under your nose. I would Jaggger would just retire or die; either or.

so glad to see very nice manners finally put into rock and roll. i complete support the censored versions. I also am a little offended by the "heaven" reference in dylan's 'knocking on heaven's door' as i don't like judeo-christian religion iconographic references forced upon me in a secular community, and tho the song is nice, a similar silence should occur...oh they should still air it of course...knock knock knocking on (echoes and beeps) door...knock knock knocking on

@#$%& is one of their best most elegantly wasted humorously cynical response to being adopted by 'high culture' at the time...it's wonderful street and dark and light ...the live versions in '78 are amongst the most historically powerful rock and roll ever recorded live...the lyrics are tantamount to the experience. annd in my personal life i don't usually cuss but this is motherfucking rock and roll

Universal Official note about the Star Star censured version

The Universal Muscic sent me an official note about the Star Star censured version released in the Goats Head Soup remaster.

The note:
This 'double-tracking' effect on the voices at "Star Star" was in fact an attempt at censoring the word 'pussy' on the UK version of the album back in the 70s, apparently. But it's an effect the band made, and we flagged this but they wanted to keep it!

It was on the original 1973 US version.

anyway, the important piece of information here is they wanted to keep it!

that may be true, they should of had both versions on the cd and let the fans decide which one the want to hear

Well now the new cd is a must for many collectors. On the other hand the value of the vinyl version is bit less now. Anyway in a way they have now "opened the vaults"... or a "vault" :-)

As I've told you: It's not UMC (or CBS, Virgin etc in former days), it's The Rolling Stones who decides everything that has been, is and will be released ...

BTW they do right, the effects: All fans are discussing about The Rolling Stones, hate them or love them, it's the first step of the upcoming new campaign ...

Yeah, but I'm 100% sure they didn't censor it so people would talk about the release. And there IS something like negative publicity.

it was the stones' idea, right. not even sure anybody's told the stones about the umg releases....

What a load of garbage...they dont even know which master tape they used....

Its hard to believe that a professional organization allows that to happen. I hope you emailed them back and told them it was the US LP version....

Thanks for the note, though...

I had this crap on an old 8-track. Was so pleased to hear the "uncensored" version when I bought the CD. Now we're back to the future again?

Exactly JR
A quick lie from the Stones camp is the easiest way to avoid any extra work or correction time on fixing this major, sloppy mistake - CENSORED VERSIONS ARE NOT THE ORIGINALS. Aww, we all know Mick has always had a bit of that Rod the Mod (Stewart) in him - the music just ain't that important mate - nothing new here.......

apparently the file has also been deleted from giga...

Is there a kind soul who can send me the vinyl mp3?

Thank you in advance!!

Im among the ones here who will likely NOT purchase the reissues either despite being a completist!! Well maybe will purchase GHS to feed the completist disease but I feel I am supporting censorship in doing so!!

Such a dilemma, "WHAT TO DOOOOOOOO OOOOH" !!!

Re: Star Star censored on 2009 remaster

I grew up with the censored "Star Star", as I used to listen to GHS on vinyl on the library....about 10 years old. Strangely enough I didn't get to "own" the censored version before starting to collect vinyls a few years ago. Was it the Canadian or the American LP that had the censorship?
It's certainly a more annoying than interesting listen. I think the "Starfuck"-refrain also sounds different from the "real" version....there's added echo on the word "F---", makes it hard to hear what Jagger is saying; unless it's just a trick of my mind...I mostly listen to the UK or Japanese vinyl anyway
