This example you cited doesn't just reflect how substandard US students are these days, it also points to how vacuous they are on a cultural level.
What % of college kids couldn't find Iraq on a map??? It was very high.

Actually, I don't think it's a very easy question. First of all I'm guessing most college kids don't listen to classic rock radio. I don't even listen to classic rock radio. Secondly, the movie 'Shine A Light" was played only at selected theaters and not at all of the major theater chains. It wasn't advertised much outside of specific markets. In my opinion, most kids don't give a sh!t about the Rolling Stones and, although I think they are missing out on some killer music and R&R history, I don't really blame them.
Now as for the comments about other inadequacies of college kids' education, I agree. The quality of the education seems to have gone downhill from back when I graduated from college in the early 80's. I hope I'm wrong....just an observation.

I doubt that Jeopardy picks their players randomly, and the Stones have been newsworthy for years, primarily for their music, and also for their lives apart from music, and so they have a cultural identity for sure.
American kids not in college probably are in Iraq.
..i can DEFINITLY locate Iraq on a map.....Quote

i would venture a guess that americans NOT in college would be harder pressed to find iraq on a map.
i'm not surprised that a random group of 3 college kids couldn't answer the stones question. doesn't mean they haven't heard of the stones, though. really has no bearing on their awareness of cultural things, either. there are plenty of college-aged kids that know classic rock music, because they like it (my 3 kids do - all 19 and over)...not because of any "cultural" aspect about it.

So, my question is this; do most college kids have no knowledge of the Stones or classic rock in general??
