well, then it's about time for a sequel to Out of Our Heads....
A few weeks ago I initiated a thread called something like Exile as 1-Lp. The result of those posts might be quite interesting: Casino Boogie would become an outtake! The reasons why it is not favoured for a one-vinyl-lp are given. Many people are not aware that EOMS contains lots of Abkco songs too. If you drop these, only then you get Casino Boogie as a true Rolling Stones Records release.Quote
Bärs
One of the defining tunes of EOMS.

It's a good song, and they play it well, but I'm just not crazy about the sound, too thin and tinny for my tastes, which is how I feel about a lot of the songs on Exile.

I have to agree with those who feel the lyrics are: "Kissing Cvnt in Cannes..." Firstly, I can hear him sing that as much as you can hear any of the lyrics on the album, which they purposely left muddy and low in the mix. Secondly, it makes sense, they are living in France, Mick is high society hob knobbing with the elite at the Cannes film fest. And researching the websites with lyrics, the first 25 sites I went to all have it as that lyric as well as the official sheet music.

but none of that explains "cvnt" over "cut."

I thought I tride to explain it when I wrote: "Secondly, it makes sense, nthey are living in France, Mick is high society hob knobbing with the elite at the Cannes film fest."
Whereas "...kissing cut in can..." doesn't seem to make as much sense. I can see how someone might think that is referring to a cut that is in the can, movie talk of stuff included or excluded from the final cut, and link that to the Deitrich movies line, but I think the link to their life styles, hence "Exile On Main Street" theme is move compelling of a link to "kissing cvnt in Cannes..."

Dietrich movies, close up boogies, kissing @#$%& in Cannes
Grotesque music, million dollar sad
Let's clear this up once and for all
The lyric is:
DIETRICH MOVIES, CLOSE UP BOOGIES, KISSING CUT IN CANS
CUT as in a film cut
and CANS as in film that is 'in the can'
It's not that other rather rude word that everybody seems to think it is
Just listen to it loud on headphones - you'll hear it is unmistakably CUT in CANS
The lyrics here have a a FILM feel to it i.e. CLOSE UP, GROTESQUE MUSIC, MILLION DOLLAR SAD, and has nothing whatever to do with that other rude 'word'
Cheers

Bollocks. You can hear Keith really emphesizing the "N" with a deliberate American gnarl to it -he clearly enjoyed singing that. It totally fits the rest of lyrics, and it's a common slang expression (even in Dutch).
And it's not a particularly rude word isn't? It's slang, but not rude. Unless you think a vagina is rude of course.

thanks, whitem8, now I get it... I guess I really don't hear so many references in the Exile lyrics to a debauched rock star lifestyle and more to a fantasy of being a more run-of-the-mill rock and roll band than the Stones actually were by that point. Maybe it's just the rootsy arrangements, but for example I tend to visualize them playing the songs in small clubs & seedy bars rather than the arenas and posh studios that were their nonfictional venues. But the Cannes line does stand out that way... Zack. your post I guess implied the same points but didn't spell it out.

Mathijs, the word c*nt is a much ruder word in American English than in Britain and on the continent. ìt''s more than just slang for vagina; it's the most obscenely profane word in the entire American lexicon.
That's why Oasis shocks Americans, as they use it in every other sentence in interviews and onstage.

Yeah, it's something I would never understand of you Americans. The land of the free, but you can't say cvnt, fvck and nigger on national TV. Here in the Netherlands everybody is saying it BECAUSE it is rude.
Is cvnt really that profane in the US? How can there be such a difference between the US and Europe? We lovingly call our wives cvnts, while in the US you call them bitches -something profoundly obscene over here!
