>bruce was very good but a little corny, but thats ok for someone who has the world on a string, but i must say the stones were more of a straight to the point three song performance with less ham which is better IMO

Well said. I was surprised by the forced, scripted banter; I expected something more genuine. The silhouette pose at the beginning w/the guitar (which, after the photo op, was swiftly passed off to a roadie) was also very lame.

If anybody is interested: I've uploaded the Springsteen-Gig incl. Jennifer Hudson as AVI-file (160 MB ) here: [rapidshare.com]

seriously...how do you function in society? you can't even handle reading
opinions in an irrelevant internet forum. ???? you are troubled.
how do I function in society??....funny you should ask,
but before I answer, let me ask you a couple of questions.

Are you sure you want to keep running that mouth of yours?
ARE YOU ABSOLUTELY POSITIVE?
Are you sure you want to keep tossing insults at people whom you dont know?

I have been told by some people who post here, that they are sick and tired
of a few ( among many great members), a few IORR bullies who continue to
say mean spirited things in response to them, or someone else, being happy
about a topic. You bullies just feel compelled to voice your mean spirited
opinion all over a persons good day. If you DONT have something nice to say,
move on, and dont be a bully, unless you like bullies. Do you?

Do you like bullies?

ARE YOU SURE YOU WANT TO KEEP BEING A BULLY?

I am fair, so I just want to make sure that there are no mistakes made, do you wanna play?

what I really don't like is women with guitars. it's just so uncool, I can't help myself, it's just not cool. Perhaps it is also that I don't like those elderly US western-style women.

How can anyone who likes rockmusik, say - on this board - that Springsteen wasn´t GOOD? And that Stones last year was BETTER? Dont you like good musik when you hear it? Cant you tell the difference? Explain that to me. If Stones 73 or 82 were still around, then I would understand...but for christ´s sake - Springsteen STILL has the ability to GIVE IT ALL!!!

hahahaha! yeah, as usual. I'm aware that what I said is/sounds terribly sexist, honestly. I'm not trying to provoke though - I just don't think women with guitars are cool. There is that scene towards the end where the artificial blonde and Scialfa lean against each other and strum their acoustics. It's not cool! Someone back me up here...

Edit: hm, not true. I do think Carla Bruni is pretty cool. Did Joplin play guitar? If yes, she's cool too. And then there is Chrissie Hnyde...
But Scalifia, that blonde and also that Blues Rock Woman (don't remember the name now), they just embarrass me.

Lorenz--you're not dealing with sane folks on this one--they're Bruceintologists--totally crazed zealots who don Born in the USA headbands and run to the defense of each other whenever anyone dare suggest anything counter to the prevailing attitude that Bruce is an untouchable god.

hbwriter, I fail to understand your bitterness. However, the Greasy Lake board WAS full of negativity towards the "Working On A Dream" album, that is, until tickets for the new tour began to go on sale. Yep, the "Bruceintologists" are now falling over themselves in trying to score GAs. For Stones fans who slagged the "Bigger Bang" album, the scenario is all too familiar.

In 2009, the ESB's tour will outshine all others, so get used to the media overkill.

Oh, BTW, Bruce IS an untouchable god. >grinning smiley<

bass-thankfully, i have no idea what you are talking about (greasy what?) And I assure you I'm not bitter--just calling it like I see it--and the intolerant Brucientologists can't deal with a little criticism--not to beat a dead Boss, all I've been saying is I like springsteen--prefer his older stuff--it's his sycophantic fans who rub me the wrong way because it's not okay to just like him--you must worship him--i'm telling ya, it's cultlike

bluz - merely a reference to the militant, intolerant obsessiveness a (relatively) few springsteen people here seem to invoke.

I hear what you say, I am probably one of the few who likes Bruce for the way he plays his music live and as far as his records go I like about 60 to 70% of his music. I don't care about his politics, but I still love his live performance.

As far as your comment, I think the same could be said for Dylan and Dead fans.

Re: OT-Springsteen on the Super Bowl

bluz--maybe, but i think they're much less vigilant - more laid back and tolerant

for me, dylan is the greatest songwriter of the 20th century - if you disagree, great, everyone has an opinion. if you hate dylan, fine, you hate dylan. whatever, "one man's caviar..."

but with a sect of the springsteen crew, it's beyond obxoxious--it's like girls in 1978 protecting leif garrett - it becomes almost irrational - that's all i sparked to here, this blind chest beating for the guy who no doubt is good, but in my opinion, is far from the best

IN MY OPINION, girls, don't get nuts smiling smiley

HB, I'm in your corner on this. Even all us Dylan fans and freaks
can truthfully say Dylan's put out a few duds in his career, but it's not that
way with Springsteen. It just isn't. It's like when I was in high school
and Jimmy Page could do no wrong. Back then when I suggested Page sometimes
got a bit sloppy, (and being a guitar player myself, I liked his playing),
you could see the visual daggers. Same with Lennon. Now, I have every Beatle record and just about every book on the Beatles ever written,
but when I suggested to some Beatle people that Lennon didn't put the moon in the sky and wasn't the father of the decade for being a househusband, their gloves came off. And then when I said that I thought Dylan was a better songwriter than Lennon was, well, all hell broke loose. How could I say that?!?!
One guy even told me he thought Lennon was the greatest person
who ever lived (?!?!?!?!).
I used to play those GramFEsts out in LA celebrating Gram PArsons' music.
I stopped doing those because the fan worship was scary and downright silly
after a while. Sound familiar?

Which one? I did, I think, three, out in Joshua Tree.
The first one I did was a lot of fun, Sid Griffin was there. Polly was there.
After that, it got a bit strange.
Funny, speaking of this Bruce stuff, I just remembered a friend of mine and fellow musician in LA (he's now in Hawaii) that loved the Beatles,
loved the Stones, loved Dylan, the Who. We used to talk for hours about
the pros and cons of each band and their records. But when it came to Bruce,
uh-uh. NO way. The mold was broken. He could do no wrong. HE was all those bands
rolled into one. Mind you, I've never seen him live (and I know that's his forte),
but for me, his records never did anything for me. Some I like, some I don't.
I think Ramrod's a great garage tune!

I think the thing with Dylan is, because he is one of the greatest songwriters, (at least I think so), it automatically transcends to everything he does. I remember when my wife and I went to see Dylan and Tom Petty in LA. Dylan sounded horrible.
After the show all these people at the show were talking about how great Dylan was. My wife and I wondered if we walked out of the same show as everybody else.
Again, this is just my experience.

I don't think anyone could claim that legitimately since the Stones didn't play last year. However I will say the Stones were "BETTER" 3 years ago.

Well, to be honest, Patti can sing and play and write, whatever.
That doesn't bother me. But with her playing (not on all songs),
that's, what, four guitarists? Along with two keyboard players?
That's a long way from the garage.

I wasn't there in 2003. I think the last one I did was 2002, maybe 2001.
I did one at the Joshua Tree Saloon,
and one at Pappy and Harriet's. I did one at the Joshua Tree Playhouse
next to the Inn. That was a terrific weekend. Band after band playing
and all of us musicians back at the Inn, doors open back and forth between the rooms talking about music, early country rock, the Byrds,
the Springfield, Nesmith, rockabilly, the Stones, whatever.
It was about the music. The next year, the madness started.
Then it was all about Parsons and his legacy.
A friend of mine put out an album recently and had Chris Hillman play on it.
When asked about Parsons, Hillman said "You know, Gram wrote about
six good songs and that's about it. Gene Clark wrote a lot better songs."

Here meaning LA? No, my wife and I moved to SF last year.
Finally got a new band together up here and will be playing hopefully next month.
Funny, not too many Stones-Yardbirds-garage-type rock and rollers here in the city, at least not that I've found.
