Amazing!!!

Equally amazing how birds can cause such potentially tragic accidents.

I expect that the pilot with 40+ years under his belt would prefer that his well controlled descent and exemplary handling of that behemoth wouldn't be referred to as a "crash." Just a tad damp, really. (I don't mean you, SNC, it's the press...)

It is amazing what a skilled pilot can do. Years ago in Canada we had a jet run out of fuel mid-flight. Happened when the country was converting from Imperial to metric and someone confused kilos of fuel and pounds. The pilot and navigator located an abandoned wartime airstrip north of Winnipeg and did a long, slow glide in there. Near perfect landing. In simulation, it couldn't be repeated. Was known as the Gimli Glider.

Tip of the hat to the flight crew and cabin crew. They put on a clinic today! Bet that sales of US Air tix jump, too!

The way he played that landing...Taylor all the way. If he was a Ronnie fan he would've weaved one way and the plane would've landed on a wing instead of on the Mick Taylor belly of the plane.

I can't help but wonder if the hero pilot prefers Taylor or Wood...

Even more importantly Wyman/Jones?

Dunno. The pilot and Woody both play a hell of a slide...

That's a good counter point.

It is a miracle and kudos to the pilot! He wants no credit it seems and says he was doing his job. Very refreshing to see. I'm sure the media will dig up some dirt on him and drag his name through the mud because he does not want to talk to them!

LOL

Sully: I was the pilot for The Rolling Stones on their 81' tour.

Rag Magazine: How was that?

Sully: The lads were quite charming, not what I thought I was in store for.

Rag Mag: Did you talk to them much?

Sully: Only Mick, the others kept to themselves.

Rag Mag: What did you talk about?

Sully: (laughs) Would you believe, economics?

Rag Mag: Economics?

Sully: Yes, economics, I told Mick, you lads should be charging more for your tickets. You charge only 15.50 a ticket...Imagine how much money you could make if you charged $100 or even $200...the fans love you...they would pay those prices to see their hero's.

Rag Mag: Hmmm, very interesting.

Sully: I think I opened Pandora's box.

Rag Mag: Who is Pandora? Is she the Asian chick mick hangs with? Was Mick pissed?

Sully: I have to go now. Bye.

brilliant Bingo.......or how about Sully getting fired as Lynyrd Skynyrd's pilot in 1977 for not allowing smoking in the plane......same thing as Rick Nelson's pilot.....this guy is like Zelig, he's everywhere.

He's a Woody fan - had to weave through the NY skies and avoid buildings, a bridge and land the plane in the right spot of the river. Hit the water doing 125 mph. Would love to see video of this. Must have been one hell of a slamming stop when the engines snagged the water.

It's been playing on Fox News.
Probably somewhere on Youtube also, I would think.

I've been looking...so far nothing. You would think with cell phones and how everyone carries around cameras w/video capabilities or maybe some surveillance camera captured it?

I just recently moved...my old building is basically where the plane made it's turn to head back south. I'm very familiar with the flight paths out of Laguardia. I use to go there to take photos of departing/landing planes. From the roof of my old building you can read which airline it was, that weren't that far off the ground at that point. 2,000 feet I'm guessing?

There is a 40 story apartment building across the street. I use to marvel at how close they seemed to go by it. I guess it looks closer then it actually was from the ground?

I've seen the video today on Fox News. The footage looks like it was taken by a building's security camera.
It showed the plane for a couple of seconds before impact until a couple of seconds after.
All you can really see is the plane and a plume of water.
The film was taken from a good ways away, so it's not possible to make out how the plane was affected by the landing.
