Help needed - thread concerning most often played live tracks

Need your help and support

Some months ago we had a thread ( or maybe another one developing towards )
concerning the most often played live Stones songs.

Gazza did a great job here but I cannot find it anymore,so if anyone has
an idea, link to this thread or "simply" the ranking (top 15 or somewhat),
please post .

I like to take it in the Memory Motel thread, but you might do it yourself.

Thank´s a lot in advance

Cant be arsed looking for the thread, but I noticed - quite by chance - last night that I have a spreadsheet where I worked out what had been played the most (if its of any use in finding the thread, I did this on 2nd August 2008)

The approximate totals are :

1. Jumpin' Jack Flash - 1,020
2. Brown Sugar - 997
3. Honky Tonk Women - 967
4. Satisfaction - 954
5. Tumbling Dice - 951
6. Start Me Up - 742
7. Sympathy for the Devil - 719
8. IORR - 693
9. YCAGWYW - 615
10. Miss You - 599

The total number of concerts the Stones have performed is around 2,057 (*). the 1,000th show was in 1967 and the 2,000th was in 2006.

Amazing to think that at some time on their next tour, the Stones will almost certainly have five songs which will have been played over 1,000 times. Even more telling is that four of those songs were debuted after the date of their 1,000th show.

Thanks for the posting Gazzza, I could guess a lot of song from this top10 but I didn't expected Miss You on this list

#s 1,2,3, 5 & 6 have been played at probably in excess of 95% of the shows that have taken place since their live debuts.

HTW would have been in second place had it not been left out of the set for most of the 1972 tour and a few shows in early 1973.

A lot of people would probably have expected Satisfaction to be higher considering the fact that it was released in 1965. However, it was played no more than 9-10 times in total throughout the 70's.

Miss You just FEELS like it's been played 2,000 times.

ah, found it...
Good info. I was searching for that, as I want to use it as a quiz-question at the local waterhole, lol.
they can get a point by estimating closest. they'll most likly be way off anyhow.

Q: would tv-playbacks and such, water down those numbers a bit or are real concerts only taken to account?
...and, we're only talking Stones, right? no Winos or Mickster alone?

how hard are those numbers?
I know you said around 2070, like in ca. - but how much +/- would you give or take ?

cheers

Live Stones shows only. No solo. No playbacks. No Tv 'guest appearances' eg Sullivan, SNL etc. I counted stuff like "Live at the 10 spot" though because that was an actual concert.

At the time I calculated the 2nd Twickenham show on 22.8.06 to be #2,000. I dont think its any less than that, but if its incorrect I would say I've underestimated by no more than 5.

off the top of my head, I havent a figure on how many shows they played from Glasgow (25.8.06) to London (26.8.07) but it should be easy to track down. I think they played 31 shows in 2007 including the Deutsche Bank gig.

Ah, thanks.

if the 2nd Twickenham show on 22.8.06 was Gig #2,000. and it's #90 on the B.Bang Setlist.
London O2 is #147 - then that would make it the 2057th gig.

hmm - didn't the Private Gig Barcelona, Spain, July 12th have a Setlist# ?
it interferes with the setlist numbering.
then its 2058 gigs in all.

I make it 2,057.

There were 5 European shows in 2006 after Twickenham #2 - so that's 2,005.

They then played 21 shows in North America - which takes the total to 2,026.

There were 31 shows in 2007 including the private gig = 2,057.

One of these days I'm going to compile my own list of the concerts I've attended to see what I've seen live and how many times. I imagine it'll be similar to the list Gazza posts above. Satisfaction wasn't played at the No Security show I saw but other than that, it's been at all the others.

Gazza, don't you mean 9 of those songs were debuted after their 1000th show since that was in 1967 and 9 of those songs were written in 1968 on?

Maybe there should be a history of when they didn't play Satisfaction.

Well, I've just printed out all my setlists......when I get a chance I'll make up a list and start a tally so I can keep track going forward...results to be posted at a future time.

Well, I was referring to the assumption that on their next tour, 4 more songs will pass the 1,000 mark - bringing the total up to five. All but 'Satisfaction' were debuted AFTER they had already played 1,000 concerts.

OK here it is. The list is obviously scquewed toward their latter stuff since my first concert was Foxboro, 1997. But I hadn't realized I'd seen a show without Sympathy. Nor how late it was til I had heard Live With Me live - coulda sworn that was played in Hartford, 1999, but guess not. Anyway, only four have been played at all 11 shows I've attended, and 2 of those I gotta hear at every show, the other two I could care less.....

Satisfaction – 10
It’s Only Rock n Roll – 9
Let’s Spend the Night Together – 4
Flip the Switch
Gimme Shelter – 3
Sister Morphine
Anybody Seen My Baby
19th Nervous Breakdown
Out Of Control – 4
Star Star
Miss You – 8
All About You
I Wanna Hold You
Little Queenie
Crazy Mama
The Last Time
Sympathy For The Devil – 10
Tumbling Dice – 10
Honky Tonk Women – 11
Start Me Up – 11
Jumpin Jack Flash – 11
Brown Sugar – 11
Bitch – 2
You Got Me Rocking – 5
Respectable
Memory Motel
Saint Of Me
Some Girls
Paint It Black – 6
You Got the Silver – 3
Before They Make Me Run – 3
Route 66
Get Off My Cloud – 3
Midnight Rambler – 7
Street Fighting Man
If You Can’t Rock Me
Don’t Stop
Rocks Off – 2
Love In Vain
Let It Bleed
Monkey Man – 2
Slipping Away – 2
Love Train
Can’t You Hear Me Knocking
Mannish Boy
Shattered – 2
Rough Justice – 8
Back Of My Hand – 3
Beast Of Burden – 2
She’s So Cold – 5
Heartbreaker
Night Time is the Right Time – 3
The Worst – 4
Infamy – 4
Oh No, Not You Again – 6
You Can’t Always Get What You Want – 7
Ruby Tuesday
All Down the Line – 2
Get Up Stand Up
Live With Me – 3
Love Is Strong
Worried About You
Rain Fall Down – 2
This Place Is Empty
Happy
Sway
Sweet Virginia
Streets Of Love – 2
Ain’t Too Proud To Beg
Little T&A – 2
Under My Thumb
Dead Flowers

....not too bad, 72 different songs in all.

Yes, thanks, Skipstone. It wasn't until Pepsi Arena in 2005 that I heard it live for the first time. That surprised me.

My first Stones show in the US and the first time I ever saw them indoors. Good show, although 2nd night was better.

Ah yes, which UConn won, I believe.

When the Stones left the stage, they flashed up the post-game celebration on the big screen and the place went nuts.

For a foreigner, it was a bit of a culture shock not specifically to see the scenes on the streets outside with the cars honking and everything (which I thought was great fun) but to see it done for a COLLEGE team. You just wouldnt see that in Europe, but my American friends pointed out that if there was no local NBA/NFL/Major League baseball team, then its normal for the college equivalent to get such enthusiastic support.

Makes a change from over here, as we tend to see our local college students as a bunch of tossers!

LOL If memory serves it was UConn's first national title, which was the reason why I stayed home, being a UConn student at the time myself and all. That capped off the undefeated season if memory serves....

Boy those are great memories.
