The Black Crowes...not really a cheap imitation of the Stones...more like the Dead
Van Hale...with origional singer...Diamond David Lee Roth...it was great to be 15 again...at least for those 2 hours!

....but I'm surprised no one has mentioned The Hives yet. They put on an amazing live show, and their frontman is a joy to watch (clearly, he has studied, and borrowed from Mick). If you haven't seen them live, I highly recommend it

Oh no, not them again! Saw them several times opening for the Stones in 2003 and they were a joke. The frontman a joy to watch ???? You must be joking. And what about this fat, ugly guitar-player? Joy to watch? And are they still wearing these silly costumes??? This band was one of the worst bands opening for the Stones. And believe me, I have seen many BAD support acts!

RHCP are really good. Frusciante is one of the best GUITARISTS OF OUR TIME.
Watch this little improvised Intro they did at a Festival:

Both posts that mentioned John Frusciante - Thanks.
He is always overlooked in these "Best Guitarrist" threads. But he must be one of the foremost modern guitar players around. Excellent, excellent. A trait of a great musician is one who not only brings his own chops, but elevates the sound around him with presence and imagination. He has added a whole world of harmonics to the RHCP sound.

I agree, Fruciante is excellent.
This is "If you Have To Ask" from my favorite RHCP performance. The end jam (which segues into a kick-ass version of "Organic Anti Beat Box Band"; unfortunately not on youtube) is incredible, FUNK ROCK at its best! (-> see also: Stones Fingerprint File´75)

Aerosmith are very hit or miss live...I've seen them a few times and they are either great or they suck...and the last two times they really stank up the joint.

Totally agree. I saw em live for the first time in Birmingham (UK) and they were awesome. They had a giant red full height curtain so you couldn't see a thing. They came on and were playing Rats in the cellar from behind the curtain - which suddenly dropped revealing the band in full flight. I will never forget that.

They played a small venue in Livingston (between Glasgow and Edinburgh) a week later and they were awful. They simply did not want to be there. Ive seen them 4 times since (including Donington) and it has always been hit or miss. But they are fantastic in full flight
