Your Best Album

This is a tuff one, I think it depends at what stage in your life your in.
My Album would have to be Some Girls. I grew up in an Italian Hood and we were
all R&B Freaks, but when I put the 8-Track in and heard Miss You for the first
time ooooh Man. Picture the movie The Bronx Tale with the Stones blaring on a
hot summer night. That's how I grew up, I wound not change it for all the money
in the world!

I grew up with my mom’s old record collection. She had stuff like Revolver, Surfer Girl and Aftermath. A lot stuff from her college days back in the sixties. I always knew who the Stones were and became more aware of them during the Tattoo You years and the MTV era, however I was still into stuff like Van Halen and later U2 and GnR.. One day my brother came home with the Still Life live album and that was it. The energy from the crowd right before the band unleashes to the Under My Thumb groove really got under my skin. After that I started a fascinating journey through their catalog. It was like opening doors in a huge mansion. Began reading about their music - mom’s Aftermath turned out to be one of their best. I was buying tapes at the time; I had them all and loved them all. It was all I listened for a while. I became a born again music fan. Through their music I learned a lot about other music, other artists and found out who influenced them etc... Learned the blues from them, started playing guitar because of them. I was hooked. But, I didn’t like Exile on Main Street at first. It was difficult for me to listen to. It sounded different, haunting, it was kind of traditional music but it was also different and new. The only song I liked was Tumblin dice and then moved on to another tune then another, and then I could not stop playing it. I realized I was listening to something incredible. Every listen was a new experience. To this day I can’t get tired of listening to it. So yeah Exile is my album. Thank god.

Exile and Abbey Road would make up the rest of the top 3.

It changes literally, from month to month, but at this present moment in time, I am actually finding it quite difficult to disagree with Gazza's selection.

Blood On The Tracks it is!

Would have to be Powerage by ACDC. Exile is my alternate favourite depending on which way the wind is blowing. Powerage is a fascinating record. Incredible production values underpin the greatest writing and lyrical expressionism from the band. Much as I love the new album (Black Ice), this is the one with the lyrical gravitas to match the musical muscle. I first got this album in 1982. Bon was dead by then of course - but not by much. 30 years and counting have only served this record well. Hearing Bons sly homage to the earliest black and white film movies "well I tied my baby to the railroad track..." or listening to him rail against modern life "doing nothing means a lot to me" it is clear that something special is going on. The inclusion of handclaps and maracas on Rock and Roll Damnation mark this out as more progressive than the releases which would follow.

Depending on how the weather's like or the mood I'm in, any Stones, Beatles or Creedence album. It's as simple as that.

Ah, my favorite Bob album! Do you happen to have the alternate version or am I asking a silly question?

As to my choices, it varies but my all time favorite has to be "Get Yer Ya Yas Out". I never tire of listening to it.

You would be asking an absolutely ridiculous question, Chris....lol

Unless you mean the original pressing which leaked out, but was recalled and had a few songs re-recorded - no, I dont have that!

Presumably you meant "Blood On The Tapes" or bootleg titles like that, which includes the known alternate versions and outtakes.

rumors abound that sony is considering a release of the original album as part of 2cd reissue...

Well, the reason I wrote 'silly' was because you come across as one who might well have such items. (Don't ask how I came by that view.) As to which, I meant both. I have the original vinyl pressing and "Blood on the Tapes." This album represents not only some Bob's best songs but his best vocal work as well, at least IMHO!
