Anyone have more info on the '81 stage design or lack thereof in the first month of the U.S. tour and where and when did it change to the design that most of us are familiar with, thanks in part, to the film "lets spend the night together" . . .

There were two outdoor stages, one slightly smaller than the the other.
The first clip must be Buffalo, as the wind seemed to screw up the screens
covering the PA. Is the second clip Philly? Which day?
When I saw them In LA, the curtain was there before UMT,
so it seems that was the plan all along to have it before the opening song.
The high winds in Buffalo that day seems to have screwed up the stage somwhere,
according to legend.

Funny how they are late for the beginning at the first clip. Kinda Spinal Tap moment...

it seems in the 1st clip their are stairs, jagger seems very limited, in the second the stairs are present but they have put two ramps for him and the 3rd their is a wider ramp . . . not sure where these clips are from, however, i think the second clip is philly . . .

Wyman states in his book that the 2nd outdoor stage was destroyed by high winds in Buffalo.

Natlanta, you were at the Superdome in 81? I was too. The N.O. weekend was a haze of speed and booze but we had a BLAST! I was amazed how the entire city revolved around that show for 3 days. Everyone would just say "What time you going to the show?" Everybody knew of course what show was referred to..
Wait a minute: Doobies did not open in NO. ???

The Doobie Brothers opened the show at the Superdome 3 years earlier in 1978.

The 78 and 81 stages were jokes compared to what they have now.

Yes, 78 was Van Halen and then the Doobie Brothers, then later... much later the Stones! Great first Stones gig in an incredible setting! Merry Christmas all and especially you and Mike, Shawn!

I saw both Boulder, CO shows which were after Buffalo. In Boulder they had the stage curtain that they opened but they had no screens covering the speakers. I always thought it was because the stadium in Boulder was fairly small but now I wonder if they were ruined in Buffalo. They did have some cargo net/rope ladder type thing that Jagger climbed on and even hung upside down on (which was awesome) and I remember he went up in the scaffolding above the stage (kinda like Sympathy in '89). In the first two clips there are steps all over the front of the stage & then in the last one in Phoenix, they put like a big wedge in the middle. I'm certain the wedge was in Boulder because I remember Jagger rolling down it during TD just like in LSTNT movie. Boulder was my first Stones shows and all this is burned into my memory. Does anybody know if there were any other stadium shows that tour that did not have the colorful screens? We do know this: no slanting wedge at the front of stage in Philly or Buffalo but it was in place by Boulder & I assume the rest of the tour. No stage curtain in Buffalo but it was in Philly and Boulder (because of high winds maybe?) They played Rockford, IL between Buffalo and Boulder but that was indoors I think.
