Remote / Rural Concert Venues where the Stones have played...
Posted by: sweet neo con ()

I just got back from East Troy, Wisconsin.
I drove past Alpine Valley Music Theater....the site of three '89 Steel Wheels shows
(and where Stevie Ray Vaughn was killed in a helicopter crash).

Other than the ampitheater, East Troy is practically ALL farmland. Very rural.
Literally in the middle of nowhere (sort of)....but all within driving
distance of Milwaukee, Chicago and Madison. Very unique.

What other remote/rural venues have the STONES played?

(Alpine was also where Stone Phillips interviewed the Stones in '89.)

Slane in the Republic of Ireland

Population has rocketed to the dizzy heights of 1,500 in the last couple of years. It was about half that when the Stones first played there in 1982 to a crowd of over 70,000.

budva, montenegro july 07. not rural, but very hard to get to. well worth the effort.

i missed the stones at alpine valley but saw many dead shows there in the 80s. would like to have seen the stones- a relatively small venue compared to a stadium.

Auburn, Alabama. Anything in Alabama is remote, and Auburn is remote by their standards.

Waldbühne, Berlin

It's not remote nor rural. It's in Berlin, right next to the Olympic Stadium.

Just as Austin's concert, but when you see the view, it's pretty rural, no ?

The most definitive rural places are Werchter, and probably Regina.

Excellent contributions!! Anymore?

I love the pix that juxtapose the cows & goats with the stage.

Wasn't there also a "bigger bang" show in which the nearby
horses had to be drugged or moved so that they didn't freak out (noise)??

I hope you are not referring to my home town of Bradford, West Yorkshire, my good chap.

Best choice of curry restaurants in the land.

MJ: "Welcome to this place in the middle of nowhere!" - Schüttorf, Germany '95. And yes, Erik, Imst and Dübendorf where "strange" locations, too.

I'll try to find a pic from the "Espace Grammont" Montpellier 95.
I was there too and I remember we had to walk through "rural roads"
