Mathjis: 1972 Customs with a 1972 serial number are virtual non-existant. So, the "1972" in the name is meant as a reference to the model, not the date it was build. Mathjis, I just lookd at my own tele custom (a mocha, serial number about 370 000), and the number on the neck says 3 oct 1972... I Guess some of the teles were built in late 72, and maybe later in the shops...
