Saw Ian playing with Mott in Glasgow in April this year, and it's hard to believe he is now 80. He and the band were great, and clearly enjoying themselves up there. Ian and Ariel Bender doing some knockabout banter for our benefit. Also, I noticed Ian does not need a lyric prompter in front of him. He knows them all off by heart! Even the B sides....

Song = Angie. I'd been going out with a girl called Angie for 6 years. She'd bought 2 tickets for one of the Wembley shows for Voodoo Lounge tour as a birthday treat for me. We broke up before the gig but she kindly gave both tickets to me. Anyway I thought I may as well go to the gig the weekend before at Sheffield, on my own. Scored a ticket on the day. Of course they played An

Got tickets for Glasgow gig on April 20th. Looking forward to it. Have seen Ian Hunter and band 3 or 4 times but not for several years now. He always delivers and always has a great band. Fantastic stage presence and plenty of banter with the crowd. It's gonna be worth the train journey from Edinburgh through to the wild west. And it doesn't get much wilder than Saturday Gigs at

QuoteKet QuoteDandelionPowderman I never got anything by Nick Cave. Yes, I have tried... Exactly the same for me, I have tried as well and for the life of me just do not get him at all. Maybe the "penny will drop" sometime? Have you listened to "Into My Arms". That's a fantastic song imo....

QuoteStoneage Come to think of it - Sir Hercules is the only one in the British pop aristocracy that actually plays an instrument. Sir Roderick, Sir Ivan, Sir James, Sir Michael or Sir Harry don't. Sir Ivan (Van Morrison) plays sax and also guitar on some songs live. A great singer/songwriter/musician but an absolutely horrible man. Have seen him live several times over the years but w

Edinburgh Playhouse, 1982. 3000 capacity. First Stones gig! I also saw Mick Taylor do a gig at the Caledonian Brewery, Edinburgh, where there was a beer festival in front of perhaps 100-200 fans. Bizarre. Must have been the early 90s.

QuoteTooTough Don´t forget The Corrs at Prague´s Sportovni Hall in 1998...amazing! Ahh, I remember that. The Corrs were great musically, and of course lovely to look at too. If I recall correctly, The Stones played Memory Motel. Over to you, set list moaners.......

I think I did warn people about the potential for overly-drunk fans. Grzegorz67 - I agree about becoming less tolerant the older I get (53). It's just the luck of the draw really, as to who you end up next to. The Murrayfield Hotel bar, both inside and outside, had a good atmosphere before and after the show. Face-painting Stones tongues, and people happily enjoying plenty of drinks with

A fantastic show last night. I've lost my voice from cheering and singing along. Edinburgh crowd was well up for it. Very enthusiastic where i was in Golden Circle, Ron's side. Couple of Danish guys next to me were getting their Rocks Off big time. Lots of happy faces everywhere. Great loud sound - nice and clear. Mick had even more energy than usual, which is incredible when you

I'm ready, ready as anybody can be. I'm ready for you, I hope you're ready for me! The spirit of Muddy Waters got me there. Great night in The Village last night. Lots of happy Stones fans. Thanks to the boys in the band for providing the music . "How I Wish " was an absolute treat. StarStar too. Lots of folks lustily singing along. Tattoo You on the HiFi.

Jump in a taxi tonight to Leith (5-10 mins) - The Village Bar - (Nitty Gritty Club Some Girls and Beggars night), as previously advertised on here. Will be less crowded than city centre. You'll be very welcome. Wear your velvet jacket and we'll buy you a beer.

I wouldn't even bother with the tram. Just walk from city centre towards Haymarket then follow the crowds. On Friday, I'll be at The Village bar in Leith for the Club Nitty Gritty, Bigger Banquet. Sounds like it will be fun. On the day of the gig, 99 Hanover Street looks like a good bet for lunch and drinks. Rolled Gold Stones party from 1pm with live singer/guitarist. May try M

I would say Hope St is an excellent location. Very central/walking distance to stadium. Camera Obscura is interesting but if you have one free day, I would recommend the Castle, Princes St Gardens if good weather, and a wander down the Royal Mile. Victoria St is worth a visit, just off the Royal Mile. Brightly coloured shops on a curved street on a slope. Lots of bars and restaurants in

QuoteBastion QuoteHonkyTonkJan ...they will no doubt play dreadful thumpy-thumpy music... Is this satire? Err...not really. Most nightclubs play music with a tuneless, repetitive beat that just sounds like thump, thump, thump to my ears. I've named a few late night bars that will play decent music (some of it live), more to the taste of Stones fans in my opinion. I'm trying to b

Thanks for posting this. I'll be there along with a few pals. My IORR buddy, Too Tight (Kevin), is visiting from NY so this will be a good pre-gig warm up. I too was at the 99 gig, and got near the front by getting there early. The crowd was totally up for it, and I expect the same this time too. I agree that with it being on a Saturday, there will be plenty of pre-gig drinking. The

Love the sticker tribute and will look out for it next time I'm passing through. In the summer I'm a tour guide, and on the day trip from Edinburgh to St Andrews (the home of golf), we pass through Pittenweem. Of course I regale my tourists with Stu's story, and it usually goes down well with middle aged North Americans and Europeans. South Americans too. I'd love to hav

I'm sure I read that, as he moved to London at a fairly young age, he did not speak with a Scottish accent. However when they toured in Scotland, his dormant Scottish brogue would come to the fore again. Sounds feasible, as other actors/musicians/sportsmen have said the same thing about themselves. I doubt Alex Harvey's Glaswegian growl was ever diluted though!

Really enjoyed this book. Sounded like he had a great time for a while but the bubble had to burst eventually. The bit that sticks in my mind is where he says that once you have been on tour with The Stones as part of the inner circle, everything else in life that you do is a bit of an anti-climax. Just remembered I lent it to a friend. Must ask for it back - this thread makes me want to r

I love The Waterboys. Mike Scott is from my home town, Edinburgh, so I may be a bit biased but I don't see this as being insulting towards Keith. Okay, it's not the "idolising Keef the pirate" that Nils Lofgren recorded with "Keith Don't Go", and there are a couple of fairly mild digs at some of our hero's more recent deeds and statements. But as other po
