Nice Guardian interview out today with Mick...

Sounds fantastic, a raw Stones club show with new songs. Mick's voice sounds good, the guitar twins are on, Keith's solo and the hand claps ... yeah. Sweet Sounds - wow. OK, v distorted, but if we ever get the official shoot, so good. And such a lean version of the ban! Plus Gaga. How a few people can then step up on here and start moaning as if it's their default positio

Quotebitusa2012 After 4 spins all the way through it’s a great record with one jarring awful dud. I’m sorry, but Mess it Up IS a shocking mess. What were they thinking? The rest is universally great. I felt the same and said as such in the Arts Desk review, though I have found myself singing the chorus in my head since then, so maybe it is a slow grower. But to have just the one song you may

Quotepowerage78 Quotekeefriffhards Quotepowerage78 How would you assess the contribution of modern technology to mick's voice ? Not sure what you are asking, all I can say is Mick on Exile was a good combination of Mick singing into the songs as opossed to singing over them. From what Andrew Watt said Mick sang over all Keith's playing after Keith finished his music, so are we to he

"Certainly, at least there's no need to cry out in horror when a very rare mixed or even negative review comes along !" Oh I agree, totally. But in this instance I do think that it is getting really good reviews because it is .. really good. Here's The Guardian's estimation, out today, not without some criticisms, but a solid four-star review too. I do agree with Pet

Quotepowerage78 QuoteBashlets spin has never liked the stones A very rare exception in the midst of a press on its knees in front of the Stones (the latest album being better than the previous one, and in any case the best since TY or SG). The Stones have nothing to complain about from the media; their longevity is a treasure trove of indulgence. And what's more, they're fashionable.

QuoteJumpingKentFlash Give it time lads. There was always going to be high praise from the beginning. I reckon they bought some reviewers out. The album is what it is, and from what I’ve heard, it’s the best album we could expect this late in the game. You need to give it time. Lots of time… No one would ever bother to 'buy out' a reviewer! If they put money anywhere, it should

That sullen Swede needs his ears seen to! I'd guess he was instructed to demolish the album, but the closing summation, after the basic idiocy of the rest of it, is a farrago of nonsense! HOWEVER 'The wooden goat' is such a good phrase though, even if i am not sure what it means!

Yes, although quite a few writers on the major publications must have had them well before, as reviews were already out before I had had a chance to hear anything. I've played it loads, on my old but good Sony cans.

My Arts Desk review of Hackney Diamonds went up in the middle of the night - here's the link; includes a track by track run-down, too. Brilliant album. It's just like itself, really, but it's also a peak Stones record I reckon! Great and very well written review! Thanks for sharing! I agree

Imagine they DO play a little club set of new ones tonight in New York. Though the London part of me demands these Hackney Diamonds spill across the stage of a London venue, not NYC - it's a Laaahndon album innit mate!!

Good piece, Mick giving away little bits, while sweeping off the dust of the past from what's happening now. Depending on You isn't anything like Wild Horses, it's like itself- the album, which I am writing up a review this weekend for MOnday's The Arts Desk, has a sound and feel all of its own and not art all like any of the old ones or the recentish ones - fully cohesive,

It's around 1 hr 23 in, when Howard starts talking about how Let It Loose always makes him cry, and then he opens up a little about his childhood and how important that song and the Stones were to him. “When I hear this I cry," he says. "I’m not @#$%& with you. I want to say this to you without breaking down. I didn’t love my childhood. But this song, the songs you wrote, that

Nice review in London's Evening Standard. "It’s absurd to talk about this first studio album since 2005’s A Bigger Bang as a return to form, or indulge in all that ‘the best album since Exile…’ stuff. This is basically another record of them doing what they have always done, it’s simply that this is a particularly excellent set of songs which have a certain down and dirty rage that f

I watched it for the first time the other day, not knowing it had been on Netflix for a while. A charming and lovely film, and as I feel that Crosseyed Heart was the best thing from the Stones universe for a very long time (then Blue & Lonesome) I'm hopeful that I can compare them positively, and that I will love Diamonds as much as I do do Heart!

It's had some very positive reviews - for eg, in today's Telegraph, in the UK. I've not been a fan of his musical ranting since Animals, really (I loathed A Final Cut) and the exposure of his serious anti-jewish racism as witnessed directly by band members and producers over many decades, is a line way to far for me. As his his conspiracising about it all, but none of that is for

I still remember, with rage, the dismissive review from a hack named Tony Parsons (British people especially will be unfortunate enough to recall his name) of Emotional Rescue, and especially his sneering contempt for All About You. 44 years have gone by, and I still want to smack him in the mouth - with Mike Tyson's fis

Probably back then it was cool for a serious 'critic' to say something not so totally flattering about them (isn't that the way to make a name and credibility for a critic by bashing one of the most popular bands on earth?).
