I read years ago in some Beatle book that John would play this over and over on the record player in the back of his limo.

I heard it in a Merry-Go-Round (an American Mall clothing store chain for young people in the 70s) over some good speakers. The vibe was very humorous. I remember escpecially the Jagger rap about "Walkin' Central Park.........." I recognized immediately that they had made a great song, in the tradition of them bending the current trend to their needs. It was a great comeback single

Looks like Jones on drums. I remember Keith making fun of Bill's solo efforts. At least Bill did do something different. Keith's solo work has always sounded like Stones b-sides.

Pass the Wine and Plundered My Soul are still in regular rotation in my household. The other bonus tracks were kind of forgettable. Still like the Virgin CD over the UM remaster. I haven't re-watched the documentary since first viewing it. I was a bit horrified by the transformation of Anita Pallenberg. My guess is that the vaults won't be thrown open from the 60s because of Klein owner

QuoteSleepy City Quotevarilla In any case, sidemen have been Very important in the Stones history, both musically and socially. Much more tha any other great band The Beach Boys perhaps even more so? That's funny about the Beach Boys. I just got the Pet Sounds 40th Anniversary CD/DVD set from a local library. The sessionagraphy is all drummer Hal Blaine, bassist Carol Kaye, guitarist Gl

Never seen/heard these. Very Ringo-ish. Well, at least he didn't make music that was Stones-ish.

It seems Keith has tried to portray Mick as a man without friends. I have a feeling Mick is private about his friendships.

Obviously they have treated Darryl as a sideman. I don't think he has the freedom in the studio that Bill had, or on stage. I thought he did well on 'Voodoo Lounge', but he's left no imprint on the Stones' sound. I think they pretty much tell him what to play. It seems the Stones pretty much took Bill for granted and are shocked at how well regarded and missed he is now.

It's not a bad Stones rocker. Unfortunately it reminds me that, at least on record, the Stones need more melodic lead playing. Maybe Mick Taylor overdid it at times, especially live, but when it worked, there was no higher incarnation of the Stones.

When they did have the channel, they played lots of stuff, even deep cuts.

Metamorphosis is mostly a one-time listen. Mick doesn't seem capable of pulling off the vocal emotions needed for this song.

As much as I disagree with Fidel Castro, I respect him immensely for standing up to U.S. governments for almost 50 years and soldiering on despite the embargo. We punish the few million Communists in Cuba, while bending over for the billion Communists in China, the same bloodthirsty ones who massacred their own people in 1989. That said, I have had a good Cuban cigar before and I could tell ho

This may be true, that the Dandelion video might not be a promo film as we think of it. But,the Stones did make a 'real' one for the A side, and might have have just thrown one together for Dandelion.

This is all so 1988. Hell, Keith's even threatening a Winos album. Then someone will offer a buttload of cash and it will be two weeks of songwriting, a slammed together album and off across the world to break records and bask in the glory one more time.

One of the early staples of American TV in the 1950s when television went from being an East Coast urban experience to spreading across the country and appealing to a more rural audience. He also starred in a horror film, 'The Thing'?

Face it, the magic of the Stones was Bill, Keith & Charlie jamming into something great. Mailing a tape (or whatever format it arrives in) around the world for different people to add their parts does not create that magic. That's why the live performance was so much better.

So, the real rarity is the 'Dandelion' promo film. Anybody have an idea what it looked like? I couldn't find any such animal on YouTube. I did find Keith's early prototype for the song, Sometimes Happy, Sometimes Blue(?). It sounds strange to hear the song worked up on guitar when the song is known for so many other instruments and you can barely hear guitar.

That is the problem of course, having enough time and money to go. I usually go in the span from late April and have gone as late as early October. Utrecht is my favorite second city. I went to Appeldoorn last time and the great museum that is not far from there that houses the 2nd greatest collection of Van Gogh's after Amsterdam itself. Rotterdam is heart breaking to know it's beauty

NICOS - what would those problems be? I took a Dutch language course from a Dutch lady in Los Angeles a few years back. She seemed distressed about the building of a huge mosque in Rotterdam I believe. You couldn't be more right about soft drug laws. We now have a 'medical marijuana' system in California and a few other states. A 'doctor' certifies you have a medical

As a generally biennial traveler to Amsterdam, I have seen it weather a few changes since my visit in 1994. It's gone from loosey-goosey hippieness to more corporate. I remember street cars in 1994 were painted with art and messages about community. Next time I came I think they were covered in Adidas ads. Over the years I've noticed a scaling back of open prostitution. You used to find

QuoteGazza Quote24FPS I read somewhere a long time ago that the curve for pop bands was about 18 months from first breaking through, success, success, success, a followup single with diminishing returns, and on to the next big thing. Think Back Street Boys, New Kids on the Block, Oasis. Even the higher class groups/soloists tend to have that kind of arc. Your average Brit Invasion group, Gerry &a

Context is important too. Goats Head Soup was seen as a less than successful album, somewhat like Emotional Rescue being the followup to Some Girls. Goats Head Soup succeeded Exile and the expectations were high. Goats Head Soup was kind of dismissed, with a lot of good will given the band for the four masterful albums that had preceded it. Therefore 'It's Only Rock and Roll' was a
