Can’t remember if it was the Booth book, or the Lydon book, mentioning Jon Jaymes was on the phone to NY talking to and referring to “Big Paulie” Wonder if that was Paul "Big Paul" Castellano, John Gottis predecessor?

Quoteoldschool I am rereading Sam Cutler's book and it ties in nicely with Selvin's Altamont book. Sam really gets into the shady John Jaymes character in depth and how he wormed his way into the tour decision making. This guy never ceases to amaze me. You’d think a con artist that young would come unglued a bit around a heavyweight like Mel Belli, but Jayme’s didn’t bottle out.

Quoteoldschool Just finished Selvin's book and found it very enjoyable. Gave excellent background on all the major players and the lead up to the concert. Interesting Booth gave it a 1 star review on Amazon saying it was crap but his review disappeared shortly after Dang!! Thats the review I was waiting for!!

If your impressed by Gimme Shelter and Stanley Booths work I would recommend Selvins book as a must read. He wasn’t at Altamont but spent many years close to the flame/embers. For instance he interviewed Dick Carter at the speedway in 79 and generally connected many dots and loose ends since.

Quoteswimtothemoon Were there police at the show - seems I spotted a couple in the movie. If they were indeed at the show it seems they should have interviened especially with the pool cue beatings. This was a long time ago maybe they had some sort of "look the other way" deal with the Angels. True! According to the former Oakland vice prez George Wethern in his book A Wayward An

Keep your eye on Bill Wyman. An Angel shields him from gunfire using his own body when the going gets ruff. Its enough to give a re-think on the statements of folks like Jerry Garcia, Rock Scully, Peter Coyote ect.

Quote2000 LYFH Keith Richard August 1971 interview by Robert Greenfield. Scans from the book - "The Rolling Stone Interviews Vol. 2" copyright 1973 Fascinating, on pg. 282 Greenfield is asking Keith questions about Jon Jaymes in 1971! We know Jaymes is long dead. The Booth book sez his assistant was one "Gary Stark" Who the hell and where the hell is Stark to

Quotewonderboy Great interview. Reading that back in about 1980 was one of the first things that got me to realizing Keith was one bright man with a lot of things to say. That's a pretty even-handed analysis, imo -- a lot of things went down, a lot of chaos with the crowd, the management of the tour, the Angels being Angels which is a very menacing outfit. I don't know how much of it

Quotewonderboy ... It's off the Altamont subject, but my favorite bit of this interview is the last bit about the Stones meeting the mayor's daughter in 1966 because she won a prize and hanging out with the mayor and his daughter. It would be a great story to track down that girl and get her memories. I may have a pleasant surprise for you. I love a research challenge.

QuoteBroomWagon Altamont saw some other deaths though, right? 4 deaths, 2 births but those other deaths were different. Just like Woodstock actually had some deaths. That's up to research. Thats where Selvins new book hits one out of the park. Those poor souls finally get their due.

Quotemarianna Selvin got his start hanging out at the concert places in San Francisco in the late '60s, and sometimes wrote articles for the Chronicle. He became their staff writer a few years after. I don't know if he attended or covered Altamont, or who his sources are now or back then. His Wikipedia article says he was known for making errors in his writing. Selvin makes it clear
