QuoteBig Al Hackney Diamonds sounds absolutely fine on Spotify and through a decent pair of headphones. Fine is in the ears of the beholder. I can tolerate the Spotify version of HD on my small google speaker but it drives me insane through my hi-fi system or decent headphones. Here are the dynamic range results for the various formats (copied from chat GPT): CD (Stereo, 2023) Album DR:

Quotebitusa2012 I hope the sound of any new album is not quite so sharp, brittle and bright as Hackney. I love the songs on HD, bar Mess it Up, never got this one, but to me it’s hard to listen to straight thru. It’s just a bit “crisp”. I’d like the new record to be a bit darker and denser. The common digital versions of HD are horrendously compressed. The vinyl is decent and from what I under

What's an honest Stones record? Was it honest when they were a blues cover band? I believe they felt that music but it wasn't their own, exactly. But does that make it dishonest? Was it honest when they started incorporating more pop sounds? What about when they started incorporating other roots music like country and later reggae? Or are we talking about honest lyrics? Which w

My Stones fandom is matched by my Conan fandom so it was really cool to hear Conan talk about meeting Mick, for the first time, at the most recent Oscars. For those who don't want to listen to the whole thing, it's discussed around the 25 minute mark. Conan Recaps the Oscars

Just a couple weeks ago I went to see a chiropractor for the first time and he was on staff when the Stones played Halifax, NS and said he spent some time talking with Keith. When I lived in Ontario I worked with a guy who bred horses and had sold some to Charlie's wife, Shirley. He said Charlie would sometimes answer the phone but I don't think he had any extensive conversations wi

He and I grew up in the same town, though many decades apart. While definitely spending time listening to the popular grunge music of our teenage years, my merry band of moronic pals bonded greatly over The Band and they were the soundtrack to many of our silly adventures. I was fortunate enough to see the latter incarnation of The Band a couple of times and it was always so cool do see Garth do

I came along past the Sam and Dave days but was lucky enough to see Sam with The Funk Brothers, a couple decades ago. He still had pipes then! RIP.

One thing to consider is if a record simply exists still vs. if it's usable. As an avid record hunter in thrift stores, I can't tell you the number of times I get excited by a find only to discover 15 seconds later that it appears the actual vinyl was scrubbed vigorously with steel wool. With that said, the hunt is still fun, though not being anywhere near as fruitful as it was in th

If you just want to do it via a wired connection, all you need is a cable like this (assuming your computer has a headphone jack). If you want to do something wireless, I would recommend a Wiim Pro Plus. This will allow you to stream in high quality from your computer or (I believe) connect an external hard drive with all of your files to the Wiim and then control it wirelessly. One thing

It's funny what we become accustomed to and become critical about. Just a couple of days ago I was watching one of the recent shows, the morning after the performance, and was explaining to my son about how when I was younger I'd have to wait months and hope to find bootlegs at record shows or through tape trades. It's amazing that we can now check out the shows live and/or the

I am hopeful for a great show for one of my oldest friends, who now lives in Vancouver. I would love to follow along at home but it will be a 1:15am start time for me so I look forward to his report, tomorrow. His last time seeing the band was 1989, when we were just pups.

QuoteAngus MacBagpipe Herring Cove! Good grief, I used to live off Herring Cove Road on Princeton Ave back in the 60’s before we moved to Victoria. Hope your flights go well and you enjoy the show and have fun in Vancouver. I think the crowd will be really excited because it’s been a long long time. Unfortunately, I decided against booking because of the looming Westjet strike. Strike averted

I'm a Canadian who isn't really into hockey so I'm watching my first full hockey game of the year, tonight. I've always had a soft spot for Edmonton as I was a kid during Gretzky's Edmonton heyday. With no Canadian team having won the Cup since 1993, there are likely a lot of hosers like me tuning in.

QuoteMirko Baseball is like Cricket. A Sport for people who do not sport. What does that even mean? Hitting a baseball is regarded by many as the hardest thing to do in professional sports. Round bat and a round ball that's moving all over the place and changing speeds from pitch to pitch. There's a reason that guys who are successful 30% of the time are considered elite. Don'

QuoteJMARKO Quotedownagain Whole Wide World is such a great showcase for Ronnie. For that alone it's worth keeping in the set. A much better choice over Mess It Up which was simply flat in Houston. I would agree that they are pulling off WWW much better. With that said, I'd like to see them do Mess It Up with Mick playing guitar through the whole thing.

I wonder how many pit tickets they hold for sale on the day of the show. So many unsold ones must go to Lucky Dips so they don't have a barren pit area when the band hits the stage. I've never done the Lucky Dip thing. Is the box office typically open long before you can pick up Dips?

Personally, I think Out of Time being a hit on either side of the pond is largely irrelevant UNLESS it's a song that's continued to get airplay on UK radio stations. Otherwise, we are talking about a track that only fans with a deeper knowledge of the Stones would know. And, as we all know, that's not the majority of people in a crowd of 40k to 70k. It's a good pop song wi
