QuoteMathijs There is something timeless about the song. It's not part of classic Stones, it's not part of the 'new' Stones starting with Some Girls, it really stands on its own. This is amplified by the terrific sound of Black and Blue, probably the best sound they ever achieved. Mathijs Couldn't agree more. Sonically it is brilliant with every instrument clearly a

We all know that Sticky Fingers has been played in its entirety and that Let It Bleed is the only other Stones' album where all the songs have been played live. But what are the albums that have had the least live versions played, not counting TV appearances. Let's focus on the UK releases. Their Satanic Majesties Request - 2 songs Dirty Work - 2 songs Between The Buttons -

Quotewiredallnight QuoteSilver Dagger Thank you for your good work. Quick question - this isn't the complete Art Collins Tapes is it? On my original I have songs like Show Me A Woman, All About You, Stop That, Dance Mr K, Run And Take, Rocker, Slinky, Mick's Idea (In Your Hand),and a few other bits and pieces. Basically it's all there - a bit rearranged and resorted and so

QuoteDoxa Quotewoodyweaving QuoteGasLightStreet Ronnie established his Stonesism between the 1978 and 1983 albums in terms of what he does/offers, with some magical playing on each album. After that, not much. He had some excellent playing on STEEL WHEELS but since then has essentially been reduced to not much - until HACKNEY DIAMONDS. I've always felt like Ron gets the short end of

QuoteMrForeverMusicFan Quotesf37 I must agree with the comments thus far in that Ronnie is perfect for this band. He is talented and is the ultimate peace-keeper and team player. I recall an interview with Ronnie sometime in the mid 80's when things were looking darker, and he was asked if the Stones would consider going on yet another tour at some point. His immediate reply was "wel

Not a great album but still a fun listen. I've always loved Luxury and that overdriven guitar of Keith's. Fingerprint File has a great groove that they further explored on Black And Blue. I think the problem with this album is in the lyrics and the continuation of the band going down the self-parody route that they started on Goats Head Soup - Starfu cker, Dancing With Mr D - cartoon

QuoteRedhotcarpet OmQuoteDandelionPowderman QuoteRedhotcarpet To me this album sounds like a Jagger solo-album with trademark Keith-licks forced into a couple of songs. The one number that really stuck is Keiths half-baked sleepy unfinished Tell me straight. The rest of the album is not exactly bad, just pointless and bland. The production and the sound of Mick’s vocals is not great. Mick sounds

Without a shadow of a doubt by far the greatest album in that list is this masterpiece by Doll By Doll. It has everything - brilliant lyrics and tunes and a wide variety of styles from pop/rock, folk, psychedelic rock, new wave funk and blue-eyed soul. It was too much for the new wave scene at the time but has gone on to become much revered.

Jimi was the hot new act of the time and the trend for filming entire gigs was something that really got going in the late 60s. Also apart from the European tour of 67 the Stones didn't play live much. Thankfully the 69 tour was captured. Apparently there is some more film shot by Peter Whitehead of the Stones at the Royal Albert Hall in 66 but its probably owned by ABCKO who can't a

Mick's vocals have been nothing short of stellar in recent years, check out SuperHeavy, Eazy Sleazey, and even Blue & Lonesome. Bite Your Head Off even sounds a bit like Eazy Sleazey.

QuoteDoxa Some random thoughts about the new album. Still digesting it, and loving every minute. ---- Since it is a natural habit of mind to compare anything novel to familiar things, and with a band having such a huge and long history that one simply cannot ignore, I also allow myself to compare HACKNEY DIAMONDS to their previous albums. There are three albums I feel have something in

QuoteMadMetaphoricalMax At present, in an emergency and if I had to choose three tracks to listen to before the power fails, it would be Get Close, Depending on You, and Driving Me Too Hard. Beautifully rough, ready and raw with a sound that could have come from the early 70s. In fact I'm getting a real Sway vibe about this one. I love the tone of the overdriven guitars, like the engine hummin' of a Chevrolet Corvette or a Pontiac Firebird taken out on a long desert highway. A modern day Stones classic.

QuoteDoxa Quotekeefriffhards QuoteDoxa My two cents on 'Keith should have sang it'. I agree that the tune sounds like it is made for Keith to sing. But I am grateful that Mick did the tune, since he adds there something that makes it more than 'just another Winos tune'. Now it is more Rolling Stones and fits better to the album and for its coherence. (Besides - what is the

QuoteDandelionPowderman IMO, both the songwriting and the performances on HD is considerably better on HD. Two of the good songs on ABB: Rough Justice and Laugh, I Nearly Died sound unfinished. Not to mention Oh No, Not You Again, which sounds like a demo. HD is a fully fleshed out album. The best since the early 80s, imo. ABB is just not there. Absolutely. Best album since Tattoo You - a

After repeated listens I'm getting a Sticky Fingers vibe about Hackney Diamonds as if that was the blueprint that the band worked to. OK, Angry is no Brown Sugar but it's the lead single and first track and got that high energy impact that slaps you in the face immediately. And the guitars on Get Close really remind me of that fantastic overdriven chunky guitar sound on Sway. T
