Well I thought that doc was fine really. Of course it set out to ruffle a few feathers and why not? While it was plain stupid to take issue with performing Under My Thumb the points about Van and Lou were well made. How many times have we looked to the likes of Van, Lou, Neil Young etc and wished the Stones would take on a little bit of their integrity? Sean O'Hagan gave Exile a great r

It's worth remembering that when U2 first appeared, The Edge was seen, rightly, as a true innovator. Nobody had played the guitar like that before. And love him or hate him, he's made that guitar-sound his own. And I'm not really a big fan of U2.

It's funny, when the album came out I rushed to buy it, played it, expecting some kind of Undercover-style, full-on,sonic freak-out. I wasn't expecting raggedy soulfullness. And guess what? I took it back to the store, actually disappointed! fool! Needless to say I have re-appraised my initial opinion. I am drunk on wine now.

What you don't do in a rehearsal situation is play the song DIFFERENTLY than how you'll do it onstage. The WHOLE POINT is to get it sounding as near as dammit to how it will be onstage. Otherwise there is no point. DUH!! Anyone on here who's ever played in a band (including me) would tell you that. If this was the frst time they'd touched the tune in 10 years, then fair

NO, No, NO! some of their rehearsal stuff over the years has been fantastic! Check Tumblin' Dice and Shake Your Hips with Mick Taylor. This rehearsal footage highlights everything that wrong with the band,,,, which I love very much.

Re CYHMK: WTF are Keith and Ronnie playing at? The Stones WERE a guitar band, But here the guitars are being carried by keys, sax, nice backing vocals and Charlie. The guitars are sloppy (not in a good way) and weak. They used too play like their life depended on it, this just sounds like they can't be bothered. The pair of them need a kick up the arse. But I think it's too late for

I've just come across this. It's from Julian Cope's excellent blog He's obviously a big Stones fan, music fan AND excellent writer. Sorry if its a bit long! In 1983, the 12” single was not a new thing for The Stones as they thought enough of the format as far back as 1976 by issuing the promo-only “Hot Stuff”/“Crazy Mama.” Another followed in 1978 in the wake

It's all too easy for music fans of a certain age (me included) to say that evrything's gotten stale and doesn't matter anymore. Try telling that to a 16 year old who's just picked up an electric guitar and started going to gigs. I sometimes think that music has got a bit safe and predictable, stadium tours, U2 (yawn), Coldplay (yaaawwn) etc. But that's just the mains
