Exile always reminds me of leaving home at 16 and moving to London to live with my brother. We spent the summer making music, playing gigs and hanging out with Exile and Sticky Fingers on constant rotation. We even got to meet Rons brother by a total freak coincidence....

FYI the performance of Happy is also slightly sped up, as was the way with alot of Stones material (presumably to give it more energy). Listening to the boot of the show versus the movie version I think Dead Flowers has also been overdubbed, but I'm not sure. I find it hilarious that they didn't bother with Bye Bye Johnny though - Keith just shouts that one out on the movie!

Me too - Im done with Vegas Stones. The Isle of Wight 2007 performance will live long in the memory, but for all the wrong reasons, and Shine a Light pretty much finished the job off. Credit where credit is due though, up to 73 no one could touch them.

On the Jack Flash record the rhythm part on the right side of the audio field is definitely Open E - if you isolate it using audio editing tools theres a distinctive "slur" from the F# to the A in the main riff that just isn't there when played in standard tuning. The "louder" riff on the left side appears to be standard tuning based on the picked notes played during the

The 00's were the victory lap of the Stones - the last shattered wave to the crowd of a completely spent force. Long live the Stones.

That chord voicing is not JUST an open G riff though, it had seen widespread use long before that, not least featuring in 19th Nervous Breakdown a few years prior, the live version of Sympathy for the Devil and Under my Thumb from the 69 tour, the list goes on. You just omit the A string....as you mention. In fact in all of the songs above its EXACTLY the same chord(s)! Oher artists songs that

Quote71Tele QuoteRocknroll1969 There are a few guitars in Rocks off. AT least one is in standard tuning and at least one is in open G. The last time is a great riff! Yes, three guitars, two in standard (lead and boogie rhythm). Guitar doing main intro riff is in modified open G. The fun never ends.......modified open G!! Classic.

Quote71Tele I am looking at the transcription for Rocks Off now. It says "Guitar 1" in modified open tuning (low E instead of D, 6th not string removed).

I'd be happy if they went their separate ways now, I'm getting really tired of the Vegas Stones. At least Elvis only made a fool of himself for 7 years. .....and all the drinking Ron's been doing can serve as the perfect warm up to a Faces reunion....

It's not quite as cut and dried as all that though - check out his beautiful simplistic acoustic playing on "As Tears Go By" on SAL. Its such a beautiful contrast to the abortion that is the electric guitar playing in that film (when he's not being mixed out, that is) it's almost like he's deliberately sabotaging himself.

Good luck to all of those looking for work! It's the toughest its ever been out there, and it's really easy to get despondent and start to lose confidence in your skills or your marketability. Like others here I enrolled on a course to increase my attractiveness to employers, which has had a massive effect on my success rate at interview - I've been offered a number of roles s

Checkout "The Southern Harmony and Musical Companion" and "Amorica", probably two of the most underrated albums in recent memory. I think they suffered because they so clearly were inf

If you are on a budget (ie dont have cash for a Gibson Les Paul) then swapping the pickups out is well worth it - it won't make it a Gibson, but you will get a much closer approximation of the sound. I was sceptical until I passed my Epi to my brother who did this with a spare pickup he had lying around - it really did transform the guitar.
