Quoteflacvinyl I read a thing on Are You Experienced a few years back in that Jimi actually liked using phasing as a technique. To him it enabled a '3D' soundscape effect, despite it being 'wrong' from a technical standpoint. Yeah, he played around with panning & phasing techniques in the studio (supposedly after he'd listened to Sgt. Pepper's). There was an

Quoteflacvinyl Frequently you mic an amp and run it direct. You get different tones and mix them. Its a blast if you can avoid phasing. I was watching the Hendrix from Isle of Wight DVD last night and he's backstage asking his road manager "are there microphones in front of the amplifiers?" then he asks "ok when are we going to get (the tapes)?" presumably to have them

Quoteflacvinyl Soundboard recordings can be anything from a direct raw board tap to a complete professional multitrack mix. Its just shorthand to say 'someone mixed this and its not an audience recording'. I agree with your point but I gave up years ago on hitting the point home. I have a massive harddrive with tons of Stones boots. They all look like this... 1969 - The Rolling Stone

QuoteGreg44 So how it is with this longer (11'15) version of "I Don't Know the Reason Why"? Fake? It's not fake as far as I know. It's just the same studio jam lifted off of 2 separate bootlegs and edited together. I didn't crossfade or anything, just picked up where the 1st source left off. vancouver, I did tweak the IBC demos already for the project I&#

Greg: I've listened to LA Friday like 5 times since Tuesday. I often make my own mix of concerts after one or two listens. I haven't touched this one because I like the overall sound. You're right -- maybe it can use a little more bass to get a pumpy sound. If I do a mix, I'll share it with you. vancouver: If you have any suggestions for studio tracks let me know bec

Is there an existing complete sbd? I looked a a few months ago and found that "Sweet Little Sixteen" and "Brown Sugar" were not to be found in SBD quality from the 1978-07-06 show. It would be fantastic to learn I'm wrong. I have the Wolfgang's Vault version (which incorrectly labels the last 3 tracks as being from Detroit). I can up that for you if nobody else co

QuoteGreg44 hough Earl's Court 2 is more "dimensional", the sound is somehow sharp/harsh, less pleasand to listen. So I'll retain the first remaster. Funny how we hear things differently. i thought the 1st remaster was nasal sounding and this new mix has more clarity by comparison, but you hear harsh sounds. If you have an EQ hooked up, apply a cut between 2kHz and 3kHz to

I thought this one sounded like the 6th but it had been awhile since I listened to any of these Paris shows. So the DAC-46 one (I deleted) was actually the 4th?

The following show was added to the index on page 1: 1976.06.04 Paris source: GR "Tour Of Europe Revisited" This a new dsp mix of the June 4th Paris show. It replaces the one posted last year. The source had the levels a bit too high and sounded uneven. This mix is anchored better to the bottom. It's not as loud as the source, but it sounds a lot les shrill. Presonus Stu

QuoteI'm guessing you didn't have Street Fighting Man & Sympathy on your source, (It's just that the DAC045 cover has them listed ?) I left them off. The sound was shite AUD recording! It sounded like it was recorded from the bathroom across the street from the venue. I'm mixing 1976.06.04 Paris right now. I only had the Godfather Records "Tour Of Europe Revisi

Presonus Studio One and Izotope Ozone 5 advanced were used to render the final mix. A room simulator reverb module was applied in Presonus, producing a "pre-mix". The Premix was then filt

Quotekowalski They can't "kick out" because they have compressed so much the sound. You're right. Compression works well on mid-range frequencies. It can make guitars sound more cutting or thicker, but it should be applied strategically and here they mucked up the drums a bit. They did the same thing on the Brussels release, but they got a lot of stuff right with both mixes

Quotekowalski Problem here is the sound is just flat. There's no depth, no contrast, everything is put upfront. It's mastered this way so that music sounds as loud as possible. On my mp3 player with little earbuds it quite enjoyable, especially in a noisy environment. But when it comes to listen to it on a hi fi audio system, to me it sounds just messy. For example try to compare Sympat

I think it sounds great. I get a kick out of how people on here use terms like brickwall or compression or limiting as if these processes automatically ruin a recording. It's how these processes are tempered and which frequencies they're applied to that makes or breaks the sound. Assuming they're always bad is remiss and ignores what is often an essential part of the mastering proc

Hendrix without s doubt. We all know there's a limited supply of great recordings in the vault, but Experience Hendrix's practice of trickling them out once or twice a year is shameful. I'm not a fan, but U2 should be mentioned too. Like Oasis, they don't release half their shit so they can leverage fans into buying CD singles or EP's. The folks over at Experience

I'm shocked that there's any interest in these iZotope-4 mixes I did last year! I'll put them up again for you buddy, but allow me to remix them with the new iZotope 5 before doing so. I know we can get these sounding better than the mixes you requested. I'll have them up by the end of the week. cheers - Joe

QuoteGreg44 Well... I hope that this idea will not cause an outburst of anger of all Falo Mix fans I wouldn't worry. Falo's a legendary technician and a video expert to boot...I'm sure no one would seriously take issue if we messed with one of his mixes. I'm not a big fan of the July 11th show from LA though. I think it's obviously the weakest link of the LA run and p

Just realized there was a thread about this here. I got your email the other day & love this new project of yours. You have some rare stuff (at least for me) on here that I really enjoyed. It seems every time I try to stray away from listening to The Stones, maybe dig something else for awhile, Capt Acid comes out with another project & I end up sticking with the boys. Thanks & k

I gotta go with nearly every boxset Gazza mentioned -- emphasis on the Elvis 70's stuff on "Walk A Mile" -- and DE-EMPHASIS on the Lou Reed set "Between Thought & Expression" and The Who "Maximum R & B..." both artists of whom I love but sets which went over my head. Love the Dylan & Neil Young sets mentioned. I want to add the following 2: (1) Me
