QuoteBig Al QuoteNikkei Darryls actual comments suggest that he is very aware that he is working for what can be regarded as some type of institution. Putting a racial angle on it comes across as typical journalitic opportunism and Keiths comments certainly don't help with that. Then again the writer could have dredged up a lot of Keith quotes on race that sound less obnoxious. Keep in mind

QuoteGazza As far as bands go, the one that springs to mind for me is The Blind Boys of Alabama. Formed in 1939, first release was 1948 and most recent album - a collaboration with Marc Cohn called 'Work to Do' came out in August 2019. So, 71 years and counting. With a career that's now 81 years long. Except that Clarence Fountain, the last surviving original member, passed i

Stones will have to stay alive, active, and keep recording and releasing music all the way to 2040 to top the world record currently held by Kaspar "Stranger" Malone, a U.S. musician whose lifetime recording career prior to his passing in 2005 lasted 77 years, from 1926 to 2003 -- that's 8 consecutive decades. About Kaspar Malone:

You'll say the sky is blue and he'll correct you and tell you "it's light blue, what is wrong with you?" I think the basic track for "Heaven" came from the 'Emotional Rescue' sessions. Overdu

A re-release adding outtakes from an album that was itself just mostly outtakes? I suppose they could add a disc of demos, some live versions, concert rehearsals, etc. Hate to think what the original album would sound like "remastered" according to disastrous 21st century production values -- in addition to "brickwalling", perhaps they'll add an autotune to Keith si

Just like Carroll O'Connor as Archie Bunker in the 1970s, Ken Osmond's Eddie Haskell became iconic in the 1950s/early 60s -- if someone was trying to put one over on you with behavior that was too good to be true, then the person was "pulling an Eddie Haskell". The character was notable -- and cool -- because he was the "bad boy" in a show that was really all abou

Dusty Springfield fun facts: In 1968 Dusty Springfield was being produced by Atlantic Records A&R man Jerry Wexler for album sessions in Memphis, during which she mentioned to Wexler that her bass player had just joined a new group that was looking for a break. Based on that recommendation alone, Wexler signed the group to the Atlantic label for a contract worth more than $200,000, the lar

A British singer yes, but of Irish descent. Whichever song she sang, she made her own: In addition to being a musician herself, she could also write an occasional B-side: The hallmark of Dusty's singing style is the sense of unfulfillable longing she brought to every performance, especially on record: I've never once heard or read of Dusty Springfield being described as u

This thread just goes to show that nearly 6 decades on, Andrew Loog Oldham certainly did his job, at least as far as marketing the Stones with respect to image. To this day, Allen Klein owns the Stones and ALO owns their fans. (ALO in the midst of his Scott Walker phase, c.1965)

Some rather cynical appraisals of the "Get Back" rooftop concert just above. I think it's fabulous the way all traffic and even business in that part of town just stops almost completely, at the pure awe and wonder of actual Beatles activity in the very midst of their daily movements -- a marvelous testament to how universally esteemed the Beatles were, practically legendary alr

^^^^ Can't recall which one exactly, but am pretty sure it was one of the 3 British super-mags of the time: Q, Mojo, or Uncut. If I remember correctly, one of the mags sent a journalist to cover the first U.S. leg of the B2B tour, so the feature article was cobbled from multiple sittings. I recall being struck by how the journalist took note of Mick's apparent multiple personas; like

QuoteDandelionPowderman Keith hasn't been that kind of a «perfectionist» in the studio ever since to my knowledge. That shows in his playing, too. On the contrary, seemingly he is happy with few takes nowadays – at least after Steel Wheels. I don't know if I have a point here, hehe, although to me it seems the songs Keith write nowadays are much less worked through and way more spont

QuoteRollingFreak I wasn't alive at the time, but just to guess from everything I've read and followed, its that he just had MASSIVE singles in the 80s that people kinda just got sick of him. Coupled with the fact that Genesis drastically changed their sound, and I guess since he was the frontman he could kinda be seen as leading that charge (even though it was very much a band decision

I remember it as an okay album at the time; Hard Woman is an even better song than any of the singles. I also remember people at the time who really hated the album, even though they may have liked some Stones despite not being actual fans of the band. Trouble was, Mick Jagger solo was easier to knock; suddenly he's out there without all that layered veneer of the legendary bad boys wi
