I know you hate their current incarnation, GLS, but that's not a valid comparison. The man who wrote those genius songs is still there, and playing fantastic guitar (albeit inconsistently), and the guy who sung most of them is still in incredible voice (as I saw in March in London). Of course, they are very far from the monster juggernaut live act that paraded from 65-82, but there ar

I wonder if the 'farewell' tag will drum up more ticket sales? Seems they've been heavily discounting them on recent tours. I love The Who, but they seemed to have toured so much recently, to ever-diminishing returns. Also, what's with that crappy logo/poster? Looks like they let Rog loose on MS Word ><

Cheers, Big Al - let's get back to chatting about The Who! Have you seen them live? I saw them in 1989 (not a great time for the band, but an amazing time for a 14-yaer-old me) Then in 2022 or 2023 - in the RAH - an amazing folkie vibe, with accordion etc And last month, again in the RAH - fine, but not amazing.

Could we get this thread back on topic please? I came for some Who-talk, not a discussion of people's social media use. @BV? Many thanks

I do like the STP first couple of albums, but the lyrics were dreadful (although, luckily for me, lyrics are about the last thing I notice in a song)

Jeez, GLS. We get the message. You don't like the Who these days and don't care about the Zak bust up. So why keep posting here every third message? Look after your blood pressure and maybe just comment on threads that you do like, or start a new interesting post.

Exactly, Beast. I think PT was being very generous and accepting some of the blame, when it seems pretty clear who the main problem was.

yeah, perhaps honest was not the right word - I think open and transparent would be better.

I don't think Pete had any problem with Zak. Seems more like Rog got pissed with Zak, Zak and Rog had a big falling out that they have now patched up.

''Roger and I would like Zak to tighten up his latest evolved drumming style '' I admire the team spirit in this sentence, but I'm not sure I believe it...

This is an unusual radio piece, hosted by Whispering Bob Harris, about the 'legendary' 1975 festival, featuring an incredible line up - Stones, Who, Zep, plus a reunion of a 5-years-gone quartet. Seems like Zak sobered up after his lively all-caps statement last night! Quotebye bye johnny Zak Starkey Breaks Silence on Firing From the Who: ‘I’m Surprised and Saddened’ "After playing those songs with the band for so many decades, I’m surprised and saddened anyone would have an issue with my performance that night," writes the drummer, "but what can you do?" I thought Zak played great at the RAH, but the drum sound was terrible. Muted and quiet. Level 42 were the warm up act, and their drums sounded so much more vital and kicked you in the guts. Is it a simple difference of elec. v acoustic drum kits? I love the Who dearly, and think Roger has an incredible voice, but I have increasingly come to the conclusion over the last couple of decades

Yep, Kenny indeed seems like a very decent guy, liked by (almost everyone), and, of course, he was put in a very unenviable position to fill Moon's shoes. I know that Pete in particular really enjoyed his style of playing and working with him. I don't really know what Rog's problem with him was (and other figures in the Who's history).

From what I saw at the RAH show I went to, and from what I have read over the years, is that Rog seems to be increasingly curmudgeonly, grumpy and angry at everything. Like a typical Daily Fail reader, in fact. He basically runs the Who show these days. He didn't like Kenny Jones either, for reasons that are less than clear. I realise that Pete is a grumpy, contrary mofo too, but s

I image that many, many of those HD album sales were to people like you guys on here who buy multiple copies of the same damn album, and make the marketing guys sleep well at night. I remember page after page of people on here bragging (or confessing?) that they'd just brought their fourth version on neon black vinyl or whatever.

I went on the Thursday night, and Roger seemed to be having sound issues too. I was sat up in the balcony behind the stage, and he kept stalking over to another mic on a stand near Zak and talking into that - I assume this is some kind of method for communication with the mixing team etc. He didn't look very happy with the sound for much of the gig. Given all that, however, he was in

Yeah Dan, PT asked the crowd last night if anyone wanted the orchestra back, to a resounding 'no!' 'I do!' responded Pete, mentioning that with the orchestra he could just pretend to play!
