Mongoose, your mother raised a good child! And she had wonderful taste in music...I play Ray Charles most every day and I played it for my mother, too. All best to you.

Yes! Appreciated BV's thoughts. I have my fingers crossed that Britain's next Prime Minister will be the right man at the right time. Farage is a true nightmare in all this unhappy mess.

"Live"...you are wonderful! Churchill was THE MAN. I love France and I love England and their relationship must always be kept STRONG.

Early on in this thread, I said that Brian's death was the end of an era. Because it was... However, to be perfectly clear, this doesn't mean that I thought the Stones should stop or be worthless without Brian. I have seen, heard many great Stones concerts through the years. They will retire and stop touring and recording when THEY decide to do so. Not when anyone who posts

Big Al, I feel VERY concerned re all my friends in the UK. The Prime Minister soon to be gone deserves quite a bit of blame. A real leader should always have a back-up plan for the country. Wish you and Britain ALL THE BEST.

Thanks Hopkins. That's laying it on the line. Used to enjoy Ronnie Wood with Faces but his major contribution to the Stones was being Keith's drug buddy.

We can always count on Mistra Knowitall. Yes, Brian became a mess. But there was a time when he counted for something within the Rolling Stones, who would not have existed without him.

I agree with you re Glastonbury. HOWEVER, Bill was right regarding Hyde Park. Brian's death was the end of an era and both the band and the audience knew it.

I highly recommend the new book by Philip Norman, who knows what he's writing about and has a good relationship with Paul.

I read this book a couple of weeks ago. I was somewhat surprised that he would be such a @#$%& after having accepted several lucrative film-TV offers to work with Jagger through the years. My feeling is that the only way he could get much of a book deal was to dish the dirt because that's what the majority of publishers who bring out rock books want. Cohen is no Peter Guralnick, a

I saw the 38 minutes of the very well restored Marquee show on PBS today. Enjoyed it very much. To see and hear Mick T and Wyman again was close to thrilling. I miss them both. Bobby Keys was at his best. This 38 minutes had been fairly recently brought up to par by fresh editing. My impression was that the entire band were enjoying themselves in the small, hot, sweaty Marquee.

I LOVE the Dylan quote. Are you all certain that he wrote this about Muhammad Ali? The New York Times this morning printed a brilliant article by Ishmael Reed about Ali.

Poor Prince. As soon as I heard the news, I said to myself: "Drug overdose..." But I did want to be wrong. All the details about his hip problems explained a lot. He must have been in misery much of the time. Very sad situation.

I have recently read almost every book Peter Guralnick has written on music. He's the best. His books on ELVIS -- LAST TRAIN TO MEMPHIS: THE RISE OF ELVIS and CARELESS LOVE are terrific!
