If the Stones were content to only play clubs or small arenas to hardcore fans then I am sure that they could play mostly rarities or tracks from a (very good but) modestly-selling current album to reasonable acclaim. The fact is they are the Greatest Rock & Roll Band In the World and they want to go on global mega-tours, playing stadiums and being headline news in the papers in every coun

Q Magazine used to be a great read - cover to cover - but these days it's just boring and not worth spending the beer tokens on.

Good to hear that they boys are on form, even if the sound guys s/be fired. Hats off to Mick too: without his unrelenting energy and dynamism the Stones could not still pull off their global treks with such panache. Cool to hear that Bo Diddley was there - for anyone interested, he'll be at the Jazz Cafe playing in Camden, London, this weekend.

ABB is almost great, like Voodoo Lounge. B2B sucks big time - how disappointed was I listening to that when it first came out?!?! I also remember that the Special Edition wasn't special at all, having only a slightly different CD label if I remember right.

I was in Italy last summer too and can confirm that ABB got a LOT of airplay resulting from the use of Streets of Love in that Vodafone ad. I think it was a #1 there.

Personally, I wouldn't be at all surprised if they're down to only about 18 songs for the Europe tour. I seem to remember that they seem to trim down the playing time as the tour goes on.. maybe they get bored of playing the same tracks (cue: moan about set lists) or they just get plain exhausted. Being on the road is not just a physical drain, it will have a mental toll as well.

I saw the Roger Waters "Dark Side of the Moon" show on Saturday at Hyde Park. Not bad, pretentious and overtly political though... and dare I say it, a bit boring in places. Really wish I could have seen the Who there the next day there but had commitments. Roll on the ABB Europe tour.. fingers crossed the Milan show goes off without a hitch. And PLEASE... no moaning about s

1178. ABB Sales
Does anyone know the latest ABB album sales? It would be interesting to know how much of a spike in sales the tour makes. Also, and I know this has been raised before, I completely fail to understand why at least say ABB & Forty Licks are not sold at concert venues. Sure, there's a chance it may be "lower profit margin" than over-priced T-shirts but I'm sure a huge

Not a very inspiring performance though, despite the score line. Still, it's England tomorrow.......

ABB and VL are both great albums in the post-Tattoo You era, UC and SW are okay, DW and B2B both really have little to redeem them apart from the odd good song (I'm thinking One Hit and Out of Control for its live potential here). So I'm with JKF on this one - ABB ROCKS!!!

Excuse the melodramatic title but, despite trying to talk myself round, I get that horrible sinking feeling that this really is the beginning of the end... The cancelled shows, the health scares, the (perhaps) over-touring of the last decade, the complete absence of news from any of the key band members... I hope to God I'm wrong of course... Enjoy the band if you can because tomorrow

Let's not get carried away here. For guys in their 60s, they played great shows in North America so far and okay they have had to delay/cancel some shows because of Keith's "accident" (or whatever it was) but they will bounce back next month in Europe with some great live shows and will be forgiven/forgotten. Have some faith! It's only people like us who populate bo

An 'a capella' version of Start Me Up might also go down a storm. Or maybe not. I'm ranting - too many afternoon beers after the football!

Keep Miss You but I'd be very happy if they dropped HTW or IORR from the shows... they are snooze fests. Dare I say it, even BS is a bit boring now. That said, I guess are more really there for the casual fans, of which there are naturally very large numbers.

1187. Plugged In
We've had the Unplugged concept (Stripped) so why not the reverse... how about a full-on electric version of say Angie or As Tears Go By? I'm not a musician but it could be a great way to re-interpret old songs. What does everyone think of my great idea?

Undercover is the first Stones album I listened to, right after I got into them from Start Me Up. I can't pretend it's their best - it's patchy like most of them - but it can be great to listen to in the car and it's miles better than the Stones' absolute nadir, the appalling Dirty Work which is - I'm sorry to say - almost unlistenable. A bit like Bridges To B

There's no doubt that A Bigger Bang was a great album to go out on, if that's what is to happen.

Today's Daily Mail newspaper here in the UK has Jo saying that she's given up trying to get Ronnie to stop drinking so it's safe to assume he's back on the hard stuff again :-(

This has just been posted online today.... according to Woody's wife, the tour will go ahead but just a little delayed... Rolling Stone Keith Richards is on the mend and preparing to tour again despite his recent brain surgery, according to the wife of bandmate Ronnie Wood. Richards underwent the operation after falling out of a palm tree. The 62-year-old was discharged from a New Z
