Seems that MCD and Aiken promotions are still slugging it out in court over who should promote the gig. I'm confused, tbh, as it seems that the Office of Public Works (who maintain the Phoenix Park) actually 'landed' the gig, and they're subcontracting it to a concert promoter by means of a tendering competition. Last I heard, Aiken seemed to put in a better bid, but MCD ar

Dunno about the rest of you, but Exile was actually the first stones album i bought. Up till then, I'd listened to Hot Rocks and, um, that was it. I have to say, i'm one of the few people (I think) that felt it grab me by the bollocks and not let go. I will concede that there's bits (on side 3 IMHO) that I could quite happily live without, but for the most part, when it's f

Thanks I have to say I'm surprised they've not gone on sale already - the Christmas present ship has pretty much sailed by now so they're relying solely on people to buy for themselves. Considering the phoenix park is a big field,

The tickets were surprisingly cheap, coming in at the (I think you'll agree) bargain price of my firstborn child. I realise that there are some of you out there who think that's a bit much, but HEY, it's the Stones, and we

>> ah, but the guinness is good No - it's great actually . Should you be going to the gig - from O'Connell Bridge, you could walk down the quays - by the liffey, towards the Phoenix Park and you'll see the Guinness Brewery on your left hand side. One or two nice boozers en route as well...

Regarding the Phoenix Park...It's the largest public park in Europe...home to, among others, herds of wild deer, the Irish President, and the US Ambassador. It's not far from the centre of dublin. Artists to have performed there are Robbie Williams and last year the Red Hot Chilli Peppers/Pixies. How good the sound will be there is open to discussion. I've heard plenty of people cr

Re The Phoenix Park - it's reassuring that it'll be general admission. At least most people will have a fighting chance of getting a decent vantage point. Re The Pope there...heh - my parents were at that. Disgusted that he didn't do Sympathy for the Devil, if memory serves...
