it was a great show last night. they performed their new cd from beginning to end then took a short break and came back and performed older material. they even handed out playbills with the lyrics to the new songs. the fox theatre is gorgeous. it's set up like the warfield with a GA section on the floor and a balcony with seats, only it's much nicer. they're playing the up

i once enjoyed drinking a 1962 lafite out of the bottle while driving from marin county to san francisco with my bf in his aston martin. totally decadent. this was long before MADD. do not try this today.

it wasn't leadbelly and i don't think it was sinatra. it definitely wasn't little richard or the kingston trio. my best guess is the weavers. i was pretty young.

Quotemattleeuk diane d, the link you posted with the uncut proof for $750 is not a first (original) printing. As per the poster JR posted above the 1st printing has a white line around the top of the dice. Wolfgangs vault have had 1st printings in the past but they sell them at the top of my $1,500 range. They sell the 2nd printing for $350 which is commonly available at no more than $200. Th

Quotestone-relics Diane d, All the ones on the link you provided are reprints. Check the poster in my previous post. Its the first. Although the reprints were mostly done in 1972 as well. Bill Graham was PO'd about the original misprint, and made them do it over. Not sure how many were printed later on. Matthew Lee likely knows. JR i don't imagine there are many original p

another great band from the 1965-66 era was the lovin'spoonful and while they'e weren't an SF band, they were one of the catalysts for the dance scene in san francisco. sadly, a couple of members were busted for possession of marijuana and snitched on their "supplier", a big no-no in those days. it pretty much killed off their career.

QuoteGazza Quoteshortfatfanny "In terms of world events,a fatality at a rock concert isnt earth shattering." That´s true, but the whole incl. the killing is always mentioned til today as the horrible end not of only a decade but of an era as well.. Well, my point is that its merely a cliche. It didnt actually 'end' anything. Festivals continued after that without signif

imho (and i was there), it ended right after monterey pop and just before the "summer of love," which was anything but that. the media had discovered the haight and tour buses were rolling up haight street. it was not pretty. thousands of kids with no means of supporting themselves came to the haight that summer. jimi hendrix did play with the grateful dead in the panhandle of gol

QuoteBingo I think Altamont was referred to as, Altamont Speedwayl, not Raceway. Although a minor difference in wording, something to note. there were two auto-racing venues involved. the concert was originally supposed to have been in golden gate park in san francisco. by agreement with the park officials, who granted permits for such things, it was not supposed to have been announced unti

QuoteChrisM QuoteMathijs QuoteChrisM Hmmm, I'm inclined to think not Tim, I mean, commemorative t-shirts were not the norm in 1969. Bill Graham largest part of income was commemorative t-shirts and posters, starting already in '65. It was mostly this famous Height Ashbury colorful artwork for the Grateful Dead and such. Mathijs Posters yes, I fully agree and I have a few. But t-

no one, not even the planners, knew the concert was going to be at altamont until the day before. there wasn't enough time to make t-shirts, posters or anything else before the concert and t-shirts weren't at all common at the time. any memorabilia with "altamont" and "rolling stones" have to have been produced after the concert.

Quotetimbernardis What equipment was used and how did they get it in? p back in those days, security wasn't like it is today. cameras (even SLRs with zoom lenses) were allowed, so i don't imagine a tape recorder would have been a hassle for a determined taper.

i was at the warfield last night, too, and i thought it was a great show (ray is a born entertainer), although i did think the acoustic beginning of the second set dragged a bit pacing-wise. but, i'm a tourist as far as kinks/ray/dave shows go so i'm no expert. i did see ray at the warfield in '06 and it was one of my favorite shows that year and that includes seeing four stones
