Quote24FPS Quotemrjones Todd Rundgren did the right thing- didn't go to the bs induction ceremony-said he was busy. WTH is Todd doing in the HOF? He had like one kind of hit record. The rest of it was cult stuff. Sometimes I don't know what to feel..when I hear stuff like that.

The only person who generated any enthusiasm for the reunion of Black Sabbath and Ozzy was MTV bro Mark Goodman. This was way before Black Sabbath was fashionable. I'm not a Sabbath fan. Don't own any of their records. But even I recognized what a big deal it was.

What an oddity. Clarke on bass, Chris Ethridge on drums. And where's Hillman? A lip-sync goof, like when Faces switched instruments on Top of The Pops.

I never saw Brian, but as I've mentioned here before, my wife did several times. The first when she was 14 and attended the taping of the TAMI Show. When I met her 40 years ago and she told me that, I think my jaw literally dropped.

QuoteBig Al [ Dave drumming would be appropriate, I think. However, the 'singing drummer', never looks quite 'right' to me. There's something almost comical about it. I'm thinking of the goofiness of Ringo and, say, Dave Clark. That probably doesn't help! Did Dave Clark sing? Karen Carpenter! But back to topic: Taylor Hawkins was a star. I never f

QuoteTheflyingDutchman I believe that Brian Jones was a very talented musician, maybe the most talented Stone at the time. The same goes for Mick Taylor. Unfortunately in those days you had to have both feet on the ground to exploit it to the max; both Jones and Taylor were incredibly lazy and had an appetite for drugs. That's what they had in common. The rest is history. What's

Keith was probably the one who started the whole "Brian as multi-instrumentalist" thing in his 1971 Rolling Stone interview where he talked about Brian having a gift to just pick up any instrument and in no time be able to make music with it.

Quoteroryfaninva Even Frampton says its his favorite Pie record. And for those who aren't Humble Pie fans, that fact is significant because... he isn't even on it. Sort of like when Mick Taylor cited Beggars Banquet is his favorite Stones album.

GREAT f***ing album!! There are scores of bands from the last 50 years who in their entire careers have never even come close to achieving the funky greatness heard in the opening seconds of "Hot n Nasty." Who among us didn't sing along at the beginning of "30 Days In The Hole?" And then crack up the same time as the did in the record? I totally relate to your

It's a great window to the perspective of 1974. Most of these issues are now forgotten, but some are still being kicked around almost 50 years later. An excer

QuoteChester I still say the 1968 Comeback Special was one of the greatest performances of all-time. Maybe the greatest. Also, no human being - male or female - ever looked better than he did at that moment in time. I'd argue that he's neck-in-neck with Marvin Gaye in the TAMI Show.

Yeah. Whoever the corporate owner of the ELVIS brand is today needs to give the investment a boost. These biopics really do nothing for me. I didn't expect to like the documentary The King but it was actually very good. It gave you a sense of the impact of Elvis, and what he meant to American culture.

A lot of people have described Gary's voice as "soulful" --which I think is an apt description. Unlike so many of his fellow British singers, his soulful singing wasn't an affectation. He didn't attempt to copy or appropriate the style of African-American R&B vocalists. I'm sure they were an early inspiration, but any appreciation he had for them didn't

"As Strong As Samson" is a favorite for Procol Harum fans... and for everyone else, a gem flying under the radar waiting to be discovered. I think it might have inspired Elvis Costello when he recorded Imperial Bedroom.

Procol Harum is perceived as a one-hit wonder by many--even Rolling Stone cites "A Whiter Shade of Pale" in the headline--but there are so many excellent songs (and albums) in their catalog. Gary Brooker was an epic talent that has been overlooked and under-appreciated for too many years. We have lost one of the greats. RIP Gary.

I was just looking at a photo taken of myself and my best friend in 1976. We're standing next to the shelf that contained his records and his stereo system. On that shelf is a record-store display advertising the Joe Walsh album So What. My friend was a huge fan of both Walsh and the James Gang. In the background, hanging on the wall is a poster for the Who 1976 tour. We both loved

Quotekovach He doesn't seem like the happiest guy. Wasn't he the one who threw some sort of trophy in the trash that was found later (R&R HOF, MTV, or Grammy or something)? I believe that was Kris Kristofferson who threw away an award given to him by a veteran's group. Actually, I think he sounds pretty happy in this article.
