Maybe you can record directly to disc instead of burning to hd first, I own an older model philips dvd recorder and i can watch the recorded material on pc this recorder doesn't have hd so you can try this, hopefully it works. good luck. oh yeah, there's a option in the menu after recording that makes the dvd suitable for all players maybe you should try that as well.

Sony HI-MD recorder, 1 gig storage discs for a low price, guess about 8 dollars. Also a very good recorder for concerts and of course with optical line and analogue line in. It's unbelievable good and it records in pcm as well. If you want to look at one, google MZ-RH 1. Oh yeah if you want to store mp3's you can store up to 54 hours of music on one disc.
