QuoteLongBeachArena72 QuoteChelseaGirls The first album without any great songs. Winter/Heartbreaker were great songs. I HATE the song IORR. Very caricatural musically and I have always viewed the sentence "It's Only Rock N Roll" as some kind of cynical mantra... I hate some Girls too, even if it is still better than IORR. Some songs are quite decent compared to the following alb

I'm done here, thanks for the reminder. This is "funny" because I have always thought that IORR was some kind of giant school - actually, a Catholic school - ruled by a very strict headmaster... Unr

Exactly ! No bad albums during this era, I would even say "not a single album which was less than stunning". Work, fantastic musicians, cocaine and megalomania helped of course! His classic albums are better than the experimental ones whose songs remain very catchy (The Joe the Lion guitar riff or the song Be My Wife and its ragtime intro). He defined the sound and the imagery of many

LongBeach: During the 70's no one was better than Bowie anyway... To answer to the thread question, well I wonder... if your favourite writer is Oscar Wilde, will you describe yourself as "an Oscar Wilde fan"? Unless you're Morrissey... I doubt it.

QuoteNaturalust Quotekleermaker All in all the thread starter unconsciously and non-intended put a finger on a chronically festering wound in the USA. I don't think it's limited to the USA kleerie, lots of overblown media here ready to raise a flag at the first sign of a little blood. These issues are likely more universal and rooted in human nature than some would like to believe.

Of course my last post was an answer to Bliss. To answer to your post: I wasn't kidding at all when I said that I didn't want the word "negro" to die. But since some people were assuming that I was some kind of racist bastard I feel like I had to explain the truth... no I don't say to "Afro-something people" things like "Hey negro! Well you're offended

Maybe they are culturally-disadvantaged where he comes from (West Virginia, one of the very poorest areas of the US) and not aware of the latest terminology. The guy couldn't even spell his own user name correctly - I assume it was supposed to be 'Flim Flam'. The guy is together enough to do the classic shift whe

Quotelonglongwinter Why compare, Stones are far better unless you're tastes are simple and you like common radio pop songs then you will prefer the beatles….the masses prefer the beatles because the masses like pop... I know that you are trolling but since some people think exactly like this: I'd rather listen to Afternoon Tea by The Kinks Changes by David Bowie Eleanor Rigby

Without George Harrison there would be no Elliott Smith... Magical Mystery Tour = Almost perfect Revolver = only 1 or 2 weak songs White Album = some songs are terrible, but the best songs are stunning and so on... (Early and) late Beatles are not that great... I am glad they broke up...

The more I listen to Tumbling Dice the more it gets awful. I love Exile and SF actually, I just think that Beggars is better and that there are songs on GHS which are better than some EOMS songs... Well... NOW I have my typical "music message board hair-splitting debate" sentence!

I never thought I would agree with Dreamer but... Angie is much better than Tumbling Dice, IMO. That being said my ears tell me that Keef started to be lazy in the early 70's, we just can't compare his work on Beggars and his work on GHS... Even if most critics would say the same thing I won't disagree with them just for irreverence's sake...

QuoteStonedInTokyo QuoteDoomandGloom The WHO just xled dates to play somewhere else but the played over John's funeral. I find this one of the biggest atrocities in classic rock history. I'm always amazed how hung up some people get over funerals, which are for the living. The Ox was dead and gone. True! The biggest atrocity in rock history was the release of Tonight by David Bow

QuoteNaturalust QuoteTheBlockbuster Exile has to many ''weak'' songs to be their best album. Rip This Joint Shake Your Hips Casino Boogie Sweet Black Angel Turd On The Run Ventilator Blues I Just Want To See His Face All those tracks are bad song material by Stones 70's standards. Sweet Black Angel = one the best vocal performances by Jagger IMO, and the lyrics are powerful enough to make the song a classic. There is a beautiful piano part (and drumming) on Ventilator Blues. But I agree with the "too many weak songs" part.

Exile has an "aura" that other albums don't have and it's difficult to argue against the most vicious of all doxic Stones-related opinions: "EXILE IS THEIR GREATEST ALBUM". >< In terms of compositions I would take Let It Bleed best songs (Gimme Shelter and Monkey Man) and any typical BJ-era classic (She's A Rainbow or Lady Jane) over Exile songs, and th

A "big joke"? Well, actually, no. As the great "poet' Kanye West once said, "that was a little joke, voilĂ ". " Besides that, I was right and you were wrong, the only joke was assuming that I would be sad I wasn't allowed to describe someone as a "negro". But my whole point remains correct.
